Speaking of interviews, what excuse do you use when you have to miss work b/c of one?
I work in Manhattan but am trying to get a job on L.I. and interviewing a lot...I'm running out of excuses. I have to call in sick tomorrow b/c I have 2 interviews. I feel like such a lame worker!

I either say I am going to be late because I have a doctors appointment or I call in sick

i usually use the dr's appt b/c 9 times out of 10 they won't question you about it. and if they do want to know what dr or what's wrong you can just say it's personal. good luck!

I have an interview on Wed. Ive used 'had to pick up a prescription' 'waiting for a repair man' 'water leaking from the upstairs apartment' Almost every excuse has happened to me at one time or another, just not necessarily when Im using it!!

I do not call in sick nor do I make excuses I am afraid I would get caught , plus it doesn't make me feel right so what i do is schedule a vcation day personal day or I make the appointment around my scheduled work time .

I've been doing this alot lately. It's either call in sick or today I used a personal day. Or I've used my car broke down, etc...

I wish!!!! Ive been trying to get into the schools, and Ive been on ATLEAST 3 interviews for a position, and you go to schedule the interview and they say 'well, we have 11 or 12:00 for you to come in?' RIGHT SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DAY. i have no choice, if i want to get out of my job, i have to succomb to the interviewers scheduling.

I wouldn't say anything. Either call in sick or take the day off in advance, if you can. Excuses can backfire on you.

I agree it does depend on what type of Job you are going for.

I have an interview today and I may have another one this week. So I am going to have to take half days....The one today is ok because it is at my company, just in another department. I am hoping no one finds out about it.

I took the day off (vacation) I ruined my life for a year.. not being able to see my parents and such (they are out of state) but I REALLY REALLY NEEDED a new job. I put my mind to it and did like 8 interviews. always smack in the middle of the day.
Those i could, I'd schedule at the crack of dawn. Most places understood I 'had' a job and didn't want to be unemployed and searching.
I alternated between vacation and 'sick' days.
One time I actually had a lunch interview (it was my 2nd at my current job) so I got all done up nicely and told my boss it was a photo shoot for my association. Im involved in a few professional associations. That'd I'd be back in a little over an hour but not longer than 2 hours. Still can't believe he fell for that one.

I agree... i know someone who had a perspective employer call her current job after an interview to see what they would say since she wasn't there and when they said she was out sick, she didn't get the job because she lied. And he told her that.
