speaking of morbid songs...

speaking of morbid songs...

FMIL and FSIL agree this song is too morbid to be our first dance...FH and I haven't decided...we have so many we like...but we always hold hands to this song and its exaclt how we feel. We always envision ourselves as the old couple where one dies of a broken heart shortly after the other passes away. We just can't imagine life without eachother and thats why this song speaks to us. but because it speaks about death they feel people will be

here are the lyrics

'I Will Follow You Into The Dark'

Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark

No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
'Son fear is the heart of love'
So I never went back

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
Cause we'll hold each other soon
The blackest of rooms

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
Then I'll follow you into the dark

sorry i kind of agree, but just my opinion- but if you guys like it its your wedding- maybe you could use it during dinner or as a slow song during the wedding?

I agree too. It is more of what the couple has been through together in their life not what they are about to embark on as a couple.

I get the significance -- but it is signigicant for your very far future not your new beginning together.

Just my opinion.

I hate to say it, but I agree! I usually say u should do what makes u happy, so if this really, really is what u want, maybe u can somehow include the song somewhere in the song list?

well originally we always wanted our song to be adam sandler - ' I wanna grow old with you'...but then his cousin had it at their wedding so now FH doesn't wanna do it bc people will think we copied. I personally don't care but he does.

it is morbid.....but when you truely think about it it can be beautiful..

I mean I love this last part:

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

that you love the person so much, if heaven and hell were full you would stand with them for all eternity in the dark..is actually a beautiful thing.

just said in a strange dark way

well i always say to go with whatever makes you happy...If you don't care at all what everyone might think then go for it i guess...i understand what you mean bc there is one song that means alot to me and FH although some might not understand it that well lol, but we knew we wouldn't use it for the first dance.

FH and I are thinking about using a non-traditional and potentially morbid song as our first dance, if we can figure out how to work it with the band.

We are huge RENT-heads and love the song 'I'll cover you' (with Angel and Collins) -- the slow version might be better suited, but it's sung at Angel's funeral. We might have the band tweak it a little or make the lyrics of the fast version the tempo of the slow version... we're still trying to figure it out, but we both love that song. Only prob is it makes me cry.

We figure that anyone our age who knows the song loves RENT. Our older relatives who are a little out of the loop won't know the context (who is singing it and where) in the real show. The words themselves aren't bad...

I *do* think your song is morbid, but I dont know how much people will pay attn to the words if its a song they dont know. If you and FH really want it, that's all that should matter. Otherwise find a place to play it somewhere else during the night?

I mean, FH and I are considering a song one gay guy sings to his dead lover at his funeral

exactly! thats exactly what we get out of the song...u hit it right on the head. and i agree it can be a beautiful thing...i just think people will focus more on the dark death part. oh well...it will hafta remain our song just between us.
