We're going looking today. Does anyone know the best way to haggle prices? I'm so bad at this, and DH is even worse! And, we're both in sales
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Re: Speaking of new cars...
I printed out the info form edmunds and it has the cost, and I told the dealership we can go to patriot ford and they will give us this car for 1% above invoice, but we wanted to go here, since it is around the corner from our house, so they were like like me talk to my manager, and they were like okay we will give it to you for that price.
We just bought a dodge, adn they gave us the invoice without even mentioning edmunds, they don't work on commission there, so they just charge invoice and make the dealerholdback that all car companeis get form the manufacturer.
So even if they sell for cost, they are still making money.
Also if you have a costco card, go to autobytel.com and put your info in there and someone will contact you from the nearest dealership and they have special pricing for costco members

Re: Speaking of new cars...
Blech, I hate car shopping!
We decided which one we liked the best and everytime I asked the salesman for a quote he would beat around the bush!!!
I finally got a quote but he wouldn't write it down, he made me write it!
And, he told us that in NY leasing is not going to be available anymore as of July b/c of some big lawsuit
What the....????

My husbands family owns and operates a car and truck dealership and I was going to respond and say that leasing will no longer be a possibility in NY because of the high cost of insurance due to the vicarious liability law (in a lease you do not hold the title, and insurance companies were going after the lien holders in cases were there were severe accidents that people would sue for). The banks don't want to be liable anymore.
The way to go now is 'Smart Buy' (that's the term GM uses). Essentially it's the same as leasing, however, you hold title, not the bank.
Please FM me if you want additional information. I read all the responses and feel like I have to hide because the reputation car dealers have, LOL!! But there are some decent ones out there, if I do say so myself
Good Luck.
Edited to add that you should ask the dealer what his hold back is. Depending in the car/truck, it can be as much as $600 you can try and get off the price. However, you should also realize that not all dealers get holdback. The money is made in interest points on your loan/finance and in the aftermarket sell, like an extended warranty or an after-market alarm.
