Special K 10,000 step Challenge

So how far do you have to walk to hit 10,000 steps? Well I found out today. I am not sure if anyone has seen this on the back of the Special K box, and I never usually order anything from the cereal boxes, but this challenge sounded interesting since I walk everywhere. So I went ahead and ordered the Special K pedometer. The contest challenges adults to walk 10,000 steps a day and eat a low-fat diet to maintain a healthy weight.

Living in Dublin I walk everywhere since we have no car. I go to Yoga 3x a week which is a 2 mile roundtrip walk and the Supermarket I like is a 2 mile roundtrip walk so I usually walk ~10 miles a week. So today I put the pedometer on and think I will definitely walk 10,000 steps between the apartment and Yoga. Wrong, it was only 8,000 steps I thought for sure I would easily walk 10,000 steps a day. So in order make acheive 10,000 steps you would probably have to walk 2.5 miles a day. That is a lot of walking.

So anyone else out there taking the 10,000 step a day challenge?

Our work sponsored that for the summer last year. It was a lot harder than I thought!! Especially since I wasn't using a pedometer for the first week -

It did definitely change some of my habits. I park a little further away from work and take the stairs whenever I can. I just think - 'added some more steps!!'

Wow that's a ton of walking you do! I wish I did that much. I used to walk more until a few years ago. I got lazy and the pounds came creeping (more like thumping!) on.
I have to start again. Maybe I'll get the pedometer too. Is it free?

I do a lot of walking and I love it. Although, sometimes I really miss having a car. Over here it cost 6 Euros plus two proofs of purchase. You can check out the Special K Boxc at home, if not try the website.

Never tried it, but it sounds interesting. I may have to look into it!

As a occupational therapist for a skilled nursing facility we are constantly running around and we decided to measure with a pedometer how far we walk throghout the day we were amazed that it was close to 3 miles!!!

Wow. I have no clue how much I walk, but I would love to find out. I got one of those stepometers from the 'adult happymeal' at McDonald's and the thing was a piece of crap. I put it on and took 3 steps just to see how accurate it was and it said I had taken 25! Tested it a few times, but it pretty much doubled, tripled, or more how many steps I took.
