Spiders!

Spiders!

We moved into our new house less than 2 weeks ago. The bushes and yard needs alot of trimming which we're getting to gradually. But we're finding tons of spiders- not just little ones but huge, fat spiders. We'll knock the web down and a few hours later they'll be back! Today, I walked through a really thick web- they make them like strings! Does anyone else have this problem? Do you know how to get rid of them? ICK!!!!

Re: Spiders!

Alot of spiders in the house means you have problems with other bugs that you might not be aware of yet b/c spiders eat the other bugs. Have you notices any other bugs - ants or anything?

You might try trimming the trees back, that might help. Also, my brother had a big problem w/spiders at his house last year. This year, he had his roof and gutters re-done, and he said that the spider problem is almost non-existent now, even with all the rain and dampness we had. I'm not sure how the roof/gutters helped, tho.

Good luck - I feel for you b/c I HATE spiders!

I'm not sure. Try going to the store and see if they have anything for killing spiders that you can spray in that area.

Re: Spiders!

I mentioned this in another post... we have ultrasonic bug repellers that plug into wall outlets and keep spiders away. They work WONDERS!

Re: Spiders!

I felt such the same way when I moved to LI a couple months ago - spiders and webs everywhere. I did a lot of research on the internet on these creatures and most said to leave them alone. I saw a few products out there but not sure if they are good or worth it or if they have other dangers. I called in a couple exterminators and basically they said I don't have a problem with bugs - I have the normal amount of spiders! LOL I hate the webs though and they are everywhere (mostly outside). If you want to try this - the exterminator to come in and look was free and only charged me if I wanted them to spray. They said they would spray but they basically told me there was no need to.

Here is the little I learned - The exterminators said if the house was vacant for awhile the spiders may have settled indoors. They said he only saw signs of spiders on my first floor which is good..he said to give all corners and crevices of the downstairs a good vacuum and try to get out any eggs and stuff they may have left behind and eventually they will go away in the house and they really have lessened after about 3-4 weeks of living in the house and cleaning and stuff. As far as outside, the only advice they gave was make sure the grass and stuff around the house doesn't go right up to the house. He recommended putting in concrete or stone/rocks closer to the perimeter of the house - that will keep some insects and spiders away. It seems exterminators like you to have spiders for some reason....they are 'good bugs' They don't realize I hate the webs and find them gross.....LOL
