Most likely without asking people they will do it on their own

i can understand your point about it being visible in pics that you will have forever. i'm sure you are not trying to 'take away' from their individuality-- it's just about pictures and what you picture your wedding day and BMs to look like... so i don't think it's too much to ask. it's only one day and since it's your day, i'm sure, if they are your good friends they would have no problem with it. as a BM, i think the bride could ask just about anything of me and i would do it b/c a. if i'm in her wedding party i must really care about her and b. it's just one day and if it's her wishes-- whatever it is can't be that big of a deal. so maybe just ask very nicely and explain why-- i'm sure they'll be understanding. i know i would be.
good luck

I am playing devil's advocate, if you do not want your BM to be themselves, no matter what, then you should not have asked them to be in the bridal party...that is JMHO...sorry if you don't like it

None of my BM have visible tattoos but I don't think I would ask them to cover them because I have a visible one and I won't be taking pics of their backs. If its on their arms maybe then I would ask. I don't think you are being picky though I understand why you are asking and if they want to be in the BP they can cover them.

yes, I think it is nit-picking.
For a lot of people their tatoos are very much a piece of who they are. In my opinion, it's pretty rude to ask them to cover it up. As long as it's not anything obscene or really truly inappropriate, I think it's pretty demanding to insist that they be covered up.
Gently mentioning it and asking for their thoughts on covering it for the occasion is fine, but it should be their choice, and they shouldn't feel pressured to do so.
(for the record, I don't have any tattoos. I just know people who do)
Wouldn't they have to if they were going on a job interview?
IMO..... whether it's a part of them or not... there is a time and place for it!!!!!!!
your wedding is NOT a job interview....I think it takes b@lls to ask someone to cover up anything, that is ridiculous (sp) in my opinion...but hey, it's your wedding and your friends.....do what u will
Yup u said it MY wedding!!!! And I shall do what I want......
