after reading that topic of how some ppl will put 'No Boxed Gifts' on invitations...i just started thinking and it really got me angry! i feel like stuff like this is happening more and i'm wondering if it's just me that sees it!
there are 3 words that come to mind if i saw something like that:
RUDE
T A C K Y
TASTELESS!
to even MENTION ANY type of gift: boxed, wrapped, cash, etc. is absolutley disgusting and selfish. yes, ppl will more than likely bring a gift, but by mentioning it on an invitation, it's saying 'we want to DICTATE what TYPE of gifts we get, cause we're greedy bastards!'
seriously, whatever happened to just good taste and upbringing?? i think sometimes our society has become SOOOO spoiled, that brats want to make sure they don't get ::GASP!:: an unwanted gift! oh no! someone took time out to buy you something and you may not LIKE IT! oh the HORROR!!!!
people like that need to get over themselves...they are so undeserving of gifts in the first place. they have to shampoo my dog's hairy azz.
getting off my soapbox--but ladies, do you agree? have you seen more bratty brides lately with Veruca Salt tendencies, or what!

Amen to everything you said! People are way to wrapped up in themselves to appreciate anything anymore!

I don't think there's anything wrong with not wanting boxed gifts if you're already living with FH and really don't need any appliances etc.... but I don't feel that putting it on an invite is the best idea. I would just not register and hope ppl get the hint that way.

i totally agree Ev. i too don't want ugly china and useless weird gifts that ppl will give you. BUT it truly annoys me when ppl actually have the cojones to put it in writing, and stick a stamp to it!

I can totally understand not necessarily wanting certain gifts, but I can't understand how ungrateful people can be. If someone was kind enough to think of you, and spend their hard earned money on you, have the decency to thank them graciously, whether it's your most treasured gift or something you'll never use. I can not stand this new breed of prima donnas running around as though the entire world owes them something. The sense of entitlement that many people have is a real disgrace, and I personally think they should be ashamed of themselves. There, that feels better!

Just for Shizts and Giggles....I probably would have gotten something boxed but put it in this HUGE computer box or what not.... with a nice bow and then proudly walked it up to the gift table during the dinner when everyone can see.... Talk about sarcastic irony!!

Re: Spin-off to 'No Boxed Gifts' topic
Wow Melissa- we WILL be talking about this post tonight over drinks!!! So glad I saw it as I'm about to walk out the door in a few minutes... CRAZINESS! Who does that?? I mean, don't get me wrong: I'm the first person to go 'oh no, cheap Aunt Joan got us a gravy boat' but I would NEVER, EVER put it on an invite, hint at it, say it verbally, complain about it to ANYONE besides Vinny, etc.
I mean, I think it's normal to not want that crap but to put it on the invite?!!!! YIKES!!!!!!! But AMEN to your post! Decency has REALLY gone out the window with a lot of wedding related things-- I've noticed it A LOT lately--

Melissa, I agree with you 1,000% What really irks me is when people talk about the cost of their wedding and say, 'Oh, we'll probably make it all back anyway.' (referring to wedding $ from people) WHAT?? A wedding is not a moneymaking event, it's about me and my FH. If someone chooses to give us a gift, that's fine. But I'm not counting on that!

My feelings exactly.
I'm tired of hearing people complain they didn't get an expensive enough gift or didn't get a gift... You're NOT entitled to a gift.
And I'm also tired of people thinking they're entitled to a better / more expensive gift b/c they are spending so much per head on their wedding. Newsflash divas: Your guests had no say in how much you spent on your wedding!
Sorry, this whole sense of entitlement makes me so annoyed. It's NOT about the gifts.
