Spin off to Saving Money: Let's vent our unexpected costs!

So I just replied on the Saving Money thread about cutting back on going out for dinner, and then my mechanic called and told me it was going to be $175 to fix my car!

That's seriously $175 that I really didn't need to spend right now. I have family events like birthdays (one of them being my own) and retirement parties to go to every weekend for the next four weekends ending with a wedding at the Watermill on Oct. 7th and my little cousin (and FG)'s birthday most likely the weekend after that!

I hate being poor!

i am in the same boat ...i'll give you the list

1. sept 13 -FMIL bday
2. sept 16 fsil bday , MOH baby shower that i help plan
3. sept 24 - brother's bday
4. sept 29- 9/11 fundraiser
5. sept 30 - AC for friends bday

and that's just september

can you believe it

I know this sounds terrible... but all of the weddings I had to go to this summer totalled us out!
We have our last one this weekend and then we're DONE until June.

Yea my 'payment' schedule looks like this:

sept 23 - party for my birthday, my uncle's 60th birthday and my aunt and uncle's anniversary
sept 30 - retirement party
oct 1- yankee game
oct 7 - wedding
oct 14/15 - FG's Birthday

Mine looks like this

35,000 miles car service today $300
wedding shower gift ( we will probably get the cheapest stuff on the registry)
September 30th wedding - cover our plates $200

it's driving me crazy

so i am going to italy in a month - we fly for free and we are staying with family so that doesnt cost anything

oh yeah besides the 30 cousins that we HAVE to get gifts for!! its so annoying! they want to see US not our stupid gifts but its just something that HAS to be done. . . so we are trying to go to the outlets and try to save some money that way!

plus we are starting to look for furniture for the apt. we are making upstairs from my parents - i wanted to stay super cheap bc we are only staying for two years but im sorry i just cannot have gross stuff in my first place with my new husband - i am not going to get anything extrvagant but i cant bring myself to use any beat up non matching hand me downs either!

yeah, I def understand this too.....

Oct. Two of my BF birthdays & a wedding.

I'm just ganna look a little harder for bargains for the b-day gifts. I cant cheap out on the wedding, cause their coming to ours too!

Tilde... go the Ikea route! The stuff is great! The only reason it's so cheap is because you have to put it together yourself. Go Go Go! Most of my apt is Ikea and we love it and we get tons of compliments!

i started to panic bc a bunch of people offered us old furniture ( which is so nice of them) but so far we got:

a black and gold coffee table with a mirrored top

a beat up green table with matching green stools

beat up wooden end tables

yeah i mean i would like to have people over my house - and i refuse to use any of this stuff!!! lol

thanks for the advice i will look into Ikea! i forgot about it actually i was going to look into Target but Ikea is probably better quality!
