Spin off to saying No to an RSVP

Spin off to saying No to an RSVP

I have no idea if I should RSVP yes or no.... here is the situation-

A childhood friend invited me and my entire family to her wedding. We no longer speak or talk (since the beginning of HS)...but she grew up with me and almost LIVED in my house.

Do I go to the wedding....or just send a gift?
I don't know any of her friends etc and feel weird being there.
I was also thinking of just going to the church...but if i do that, should I rsvp No, but I will see you at the church??????

If you dont want to go the reception I would RSVP No. And then put a note, like unfortunately I will not be able to make it to the reception due to a planned prior engagement but I will be able to make it to the ceremony.

Well is this someone that you'd like to get back in touch with? Were you planning on inviting her to your wedding? Do you think she's just fishing for a gift?

The answers to these questions may help you decide. If you answered yes to either of the first 2 then I think you should go to her wedding. If you decide to RSVP no for whatever reason, I would just say something like 'Thank you for thinking of me'. I wouldn't say anything about attending her ceremony, just let her be surprised to see you!!

If you don't feel comfortable going, don't. You have no obligation to attend...that's why you get to choose yes or no!

It's plain and simple. As I've told others, sometimes we feel closer to friends than they do to us and vice versa. The girl you choose as your MOH might have you on her B-list!

If you think you'll be uncomfortable and not know anyone, don't go....weddings are not fun if you don't know anyone there!!!

Re: Spin off to saying No to an RSVP

Thanks ladies. Im not sure what I am going to do.

would I invite her to my wedding no....
do I want to get back in touch after 10 years of being out of touch...no
i have nothing against her..just grew apart.
I dont think she is fishing for gifts...but maybe to fufill a minimum haha...j/k. she did invite my entire family....so that is where it gets odd!

the biggest problem is she lives in my neighborhood...and i bump into her from time to time...and we are strictly on a hi how are you..basis...no real conversations.

i think im going to say no, and just go to the church....UGH

Is the rest of your family going? If this is someone you want to get back in touch with I say go...but if it isn't important to you then I would RSVP no...if you want to go to the church I would note on the response you can't make the reception but will see her at the church.

Personally, I'd go. Like CLMon said, some ppl you may consider a best friend consider you to be much less of one... but in this case, maybe she values the close childhood friendship that the two of you had.... but you don't anymore (which is understandable).

If she invited not only you, but members of your family, it would probably mean a lot to her if you were there. JMHO

I agree. If you wouldn't be comfortable there then don't go.
