How many of you are getting pressure from your family to name your children a certain name? Are there any family names that you HAVE to take?
For me, basically when we have children our whole family is going to disown us haha.
FH is the 3rd Frank in his family. I told him so early on in our relationship that I REFUSE to name our son Frank. I think the whole father-son name thing is sexist and I am SO not into it. Thankfully he agrees with me and promises to stand up to his family when the time comes. Then on my side of the family my parents expect the kids to be named after them. I refuse to do this as well. I feel bad, but to me my child's name means a lot and I don't want to just assign them names like that.
I actually thought of a compromise though. Because BOTH families want a say in OUR children names and that is not going to happen. We plan on making our parents' names our children's middle names. I think that is appropriate and respectful.
I just know this is all going to be a headache

I've made it real clear to my family that we aren't doing the Greek thing or the Italian thing so all bets are off. FH broke it to his mom that if we have kids, their middle name won't be Max, but it will be a nice surprise to her to find out that it will be the baby's first name!

I haven't gotten any pressure, but I would like to name my boys (if I have 2) after my Dad & Uncle

thankfully no pressure even though i think if we had a boy fh wants to name it after his dad Salvatore - i said no - but it can be his middle name

No pressure so far. However, if we have a boy, i think his middle name will be FFIL's name since FH is his only child and they have the same first name.
