Spin-Off to Whose Paying for the Wedding

Spin-Off to Whose Paying for the Wedding

So for those out there who are in the situation where your parents, FH's parents and you and FH are contributing to the wedding, how are you wording your invites?

FYI - in my situation FH's parents are not contributing as much as my parents are. Is there a way to distinguish this so people know that they didn't contribute the same?

Thank you!

Well i am putting both parents names on top and then ours, i dont want to focus on who paid for what or who contributed more, that day is gonna be about our marriage.

But i have seen putting the parents name on top requesting the honour of your presence then your name then to the son of his parents name

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought this was when the bride's parents pay for everything.

we had help, a lot of help, from Dhs parents...
but my parents paid the majority of the cost...however, it wasn't about who paid for what...

we did
mr. and mrs xxx
and
mr and mrs xxx
request the honor of your presence
at the marriage uniting
xxx
and
xxx

This was TOTALLY my situation (my parents paid a majority of the wedding costs and DH parents picked up whatever my parents did not pay for - so it was about a 75/25 split), however we worded our invitation the same as july06bride. I did not want or need people to know who contributed more, nor did my parents care.

Yea, I have that same question.

We have been thinking about putting...

Together with our parents

Name

&

Name

Because on top of that my parents are divorced, I can't have all these names on the invite.

My mom
My dad
FH parents

and what about the stepparents...they pay too?

well thats how you distinguish that your parents did pay more...i mean otherwise its both their names together and the brides parents go first regardless

since we paid for the wedding and both sets of parents gave some contributions, we wrote:

Bride
and
Groom

together with their parents
request the honour of your presence

And thats exactly why whose paying for what shouldnt be the focus...Your situation is different, you either put both their names on top and not worry about letting everyone know that your parents paid more...Or the other way is putting your parents name on top, maybe putting your parents names, your name, then saying together with mr and mrs...Just be very careful TRUST ME!!! and other people on this site can tell you, be careful how you do this bc you can end up hurting peoples feelings and then drama will break out

Thanks ladies. I know that it should not be about who is paying for what, but there is more to the story that I unfortunately cannot divulge here publicly, which is what triggered this question.

Thanks again for your input!

both mine and fh's families are contributing $. we don't care who gave us more, we're happy they gave us something. we're wording ours:
Tricia
and
FH
with their parents invite you to attend. . . . .

Re: Spin-Off to Whose Paying for the Wedding

i agree that it shuoldn't be about whos paying for more or paying for what.... even if your FIs parents aren't contrbuting as much $$ to the wedding, they are still his parents, and still raised him and so they deserve recognition for that- its not about what they are contributing to a one day party....

for ours, my parents, his parents, and dh and i all contributed so we did the

name
and
name
together with their parents
request the honor....

that eliminated all the which parents names go first, etc stuff... good luck!!

we paid for the majority of our wedding, we had help, but it was 90% us. BUT, this is what we did

mr. and mrs. my parents
and
mr. and mrs. grooms parents
request the honour....

i said to hell with etiquette on that one. they are our parents and should have their names up top. and i didn't care who gave more, who needs to know that anyway?

Re: Spin-Off to Whose Paying for the Wedding

FH and I and the parents split basically in thirds... we included everyone by doing something like:

LJ
and
RB
together with their parents
Mr and Mrs X
and
Mr and Mrx Y
blah blah blah

Definitely chat with the folks though. My sis was planning on doing something different on her invites and mom and dad were SO upset!!

Together with their families,
Bride and Groom invite you to celebrate their wedding at ........ on ........

We didn't want a lot of text and all the names written out....

Re: Spin-Off to Whose Paying for the Wedding

I totally agree with Denise and others. Invite wording should not be about who pays for what. It's a way to honor both sets of parents. Why hurt feelings if it's not necessary? We put FH's dad's name on our invite even though he has not really been a part of his life. FH doesn't want any regrets, he wants to be satisfied knowing he was the better man by including everyone!!
