Spinoff: (Alikings's topic) Eled and MS Math need HELP!

anyone have any idea how to solve this problem? I need at least 2 different ways and really have no idea...

'The Statue of Liberty's nose measures 4 feet 6 inches from the bridge to the top. Using the idea of ratios, calculate the length of the Statue of Liberty's arm.'

(students in the lesson had rulers, string, and calculators, so you may use these materials in at least one of the solution strategies if you like)

to get a rough estimate...i would take the measurement of my nose and compare it to the measurement of my arm (ratio)...

then use a algebraic equation (assuming that my ration and the SoL's ration should be similar) to get the length of her arm

i was thinking the exact same thing. have them develop a ratio of THEIR nose to their arm, and extend that ratio to calculate the SOL's arm.
