Spinoff Controversy: Same Sex Marriage/Abortion Rights

This is a STRETCH so just humor me for a bit.
Stab in the dark.....
(or just working too late and my brain is fried)

I saw a lot of 'let them have the choice'
and the words 'freedom and rights' in the previously long, CIVIL, and mostly respectful thread (PS: thanks guys for being great)

So it bolstered me courage to ask:

If you support same sex marriage do you support the right for a woman to choose for herself regarding Abortion?

It doesn't sound like they match but if I believe same-sex couples have 'rights' and 'choices' do whatever they felt was right with their life and their partners, wouldn't the same be true for any woman of America?

On BHB a woman is nearly ashamed to admit her and her FH have previously agreed to abort if a child should result in pre-martial sex. Why are women ashamed?

I am (obviously) pro-choice. My body, my life, my choices, my right.

Thoughts?

Could be considered a duel poll your views on abortion as well as how it affects your views on 'rights' to any person.

Sure, every woman in America has rights, but what about the rights of the baby? This is where it gets tricky. We debated this last week, and somebody made an excellent point about how pro-choice and pro-life people are arguing a different issue. Pro-choice people are worried about the rights of the woman and her body and pro-life people are trying to protect the life of the baby.

S'ok.. I had a liquid lunch.. I probably lost myself in an Apple Martini that hasn't worn off

It's just in a way I hear the word 'rights' tossed around so much like it's candy. But when using the same principal in another subject the word 'rights' takes on another meaning..

Bah Im not drunk just not clear.. probably didnt help with this one either.
*shrug*

Leave it as a curiousity poll then.

I was one of the people using the term rights. I refuse to say tossing because I put alot of thought into what I was saying. I believe in human rights. I believe in a woman's right to choose and gay marriage.

I agree. Personally I am truly on the fence regarding abortion. When I was younger I was pro-choice. Because I believed if a teenage girl gets pregnant or if a woman of rape gets pregnant that an abortion might have been the best thing for all parties involved. Over the last couple of years I've started to read the side of pro-life and it has opened my eyes a lot. Pro-choice argue that it's the women's right to choose. Pro-life argue that the women is making a choice for the baby and the woman not just the woman by herself. As someone who is currently pregnant I have to say that in my mind my baby took on a life the second I found out I was pregnant. To me if I aborted that baby (not that that was ever what I wanted to do) I would have been taking a life. At the same time although it's not right for me, I think that abortion might be the right choice for some people. And that's why I would never be able to say if I was pro-choice or pro-life.

What's interesting to me is when do we consider the baby to be an actual life? Some people say not until after the first trimester because that's when the baby really starts to take on 'human' forms. But ask a women who had a miscarriage before the first trimester was over and I'll bet you she'll say that she lost a child not just a fertilized egg.

I've always been pro-life but in certain circumstances (like when the health of the mother is at stake) I think you have to make an informed decision. It seems to me that too many people are careless when it comes to the possibility of getting pregnant and are looking for an easy out (not that abortion is easy but I'm just trying to make a point). People have to take responsibility for their actions and realize there are consequences to their choices. No one should punish a child for their lack of foresight. That's JMO.

As for same sex marriages, I can't say I agree with that. I think people should be with whomever they like and I have no problem with people who choose to be in same sex relationships. However, 'marriage' is between a man and a woman - that's the definition. As the saying goes, God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Of course, if you're not religious that means nothing. Again, JMO.

I am pro-choice for women in general but pro-life for myself. I also support same sex marriages. But I do not think my opinions on these 2 issues have anything to do with eachother.
