Spinoff Diet Question

Spinoff Diet Question

I've been seeing a lot of posts regarding us girls wanting to lose weight.. i guess our date is approaching and we are all starting to freak out.

I am in a similar boat. It was kind of funny... last year I dropped weight after a trip to Spain. I got sick on the vacation and between all of the walking and lack of appetite I was smaller than I had been in years.. and I wasn't even trying.. when I came home from vaca I actually maintained that weight for a good year. I was so happy that I was going to be getting married smaller than I had been in a long time, and I went ahead got fitted for my dress etc.
Well... after these holidays etc.. i gradually put on between 6-8 lbs. I have no clue how it happened but here I am... heavier than when I first put on my dress.. I am actually a very healthy eater with a few cheats here and there (aka wine)... I work out when I can.. some weeks more than others bc of obligations etc.

I've tried WW in the past... it drove me nuts.. I couldn't sit there counting points for everything.

Can you girls who are dieting give me a run down of what you eat in a given day.

Also... What does a typical workout look like for you?

I need inspiration! I have to at least be the weight I was when I purchased my dress...ahhhhh!

Re: Spinoff Diet Question

I'm not on a specific 'diet' - I just watch what I eat and when I eat it. I have breakfast, lunch, and dinner and snacks in between. I was never a big fan of soda, so I normally just drink water, and sometimes OJ for breakfast. I take out the yolk from eggs and make egg white omelettes. All bread intake is w/ whole wheat bread, and same thing w/ pastas. This is just something FH and I are doing as a lifestyle change more so than just an immidiate fix.

For exercise, I've been doing 3-4 days -- about 30 minutes of cardio and another 30 minutes of ab workouts and weight lifting. I'm trying to lose around 1-2 pounds a week maximum so that I can maintain it even after the wedding.

You can do it!!!

Re: Spinoff Diet Question

thanks!

I don't drink juices... I only drink water coffee and tea... sometimes wine.. im trying to limit that to weekends only though

I do the same thing with whole wheat pastas and bread.. i think sometimes when you make healthy living your lifestyle it's even harder to loose weight since it's not a drastic change, ya know?

If WW drove you crazy, I would consider trying the WW online. You just put in what food you ate and it counts it all for you. I find it really easy.

Re: Spinoff Diet Question

since i'm 4 months away, i had to change my regular diet/workout that i've had for a while now.

I started this last week:

-Insanity workout (heavy cardio base) in the AM 6x a week
-Chobani yogurt for breakfast, sometimes i have egg whites and goat cheese on those 100 cal wheat thin sandwich bread
-Lunch, if i eat filipino food, I eat smaller portions. But lately, I've been having hillshire farms deli meat on 100 cal sandwich thins with Trader Joes creamy corn and roasted pepper soup
-Dinner: varies from filipino food w/ rice to sandwiches or salads
-i try to go to bikram yoga 4-5x a week at night on top of Insanity. It's more for relaxing myself since i've been more stressed lately.
-Get home from bikram (usually 10PM) and i'm starving so i snack on random foods, sometimes unhealthy. Other times frozen fruit with milk and water for a shake
-i usually have some form of dessert every night with my dinner but again, in moderation

so far this has been working for me and hopefully I can keep it up!

Good luck with yours!!

For sure. For me, it's more important that I lose the weight and it's something I can maintain afterwards, so in terms of food, it also means sometimes limiting the portion, time of day you eat it in, etc.

You should also kick up weight training, that will help burn calories.

Re: Spinoff Diet Question

I'm not really on a diet but I just watch what I eat...portion control! I don't believe in eating fat-free foods with sugar substitutes...everything is fine BUT in moderation! Most days I eat 3/4 - 1 cup of cereal and fruit(grapefruit, berries), I usually have a snack inbetween bfast and lunch-nuts, apple, etc. Lunch I usually have a chicken sandwich on wholewheat and sometimes a salad. Another snack inbetween lunch and dinner-usually yogurt. I was following southbeach for dinner because FH was doing it and it made life easier...we usually had chicken, asparagus or some other vegetable, and salad. I only drink water, tea, 1 cup of coffee, and seltzer(which tricks my stomach into thinking I'm full!!!) Good luck!

Re: Spinoff Diet Question

I am totally with you on this! One thing I have been told by 3 different people as far as working out goes is that you should do weight training more than cardio. It burns more fat and speeds up your metabolism. So now I do a 5min cardio warm up... all the circut weights and then about 20 mins of cardio after. I do that twice a week and regular cardio (45mins) 2 other days. But I am going to start doing Spin classes now!! GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!!!!

Re: Spinoff Diet Question

I'm on day 10 of P90X and love it so far. The diet is very easy to follow! They give you a certain number of portions you need to eat of each category every day. I just cross them off as the day progresses. Yesterday was the only day I missed some portions but thats cause FH cooked for me and he made a protein and carb, thats it! I needed a dairy and a vegetable. Oh well! The best advice is to think like a skinny person, have bad meals not bad days, weeks, months! Haha!

I don't believe in Cheating when you have a goal it's discipline. However if it's a long term goal thats ongoing then yes and don't make it something completely horrible just enough to satisfy

i agree with this BUT i cheat myself b/c it's what gets me to my goal without driving myself nuts and then going back to bad habits. as long as you're not totally cheating your system, i think it's ok IMO

Re: Spinoff Diet Question

I'm on Weight Watchers and love it! Nothing else has ever worked for me.

For me this is typically what I eat during the week:

Breakfast Options:
- coffee, no sugar, fat free half & half
- 2 Serving sizes of Special K with 1/2 cup of 1% milk
- Bagel Thin with Weight Watchers Whipped Cream Cheese and Strawberry Preserves
- Egg White Omlet with onions, peppers, and mushrooms and a slice of whole wheat toast

Lunch Options:
- soup
- salad (no croutons and usually just light Olive Oil and Vinegar)
- cold cut sandwich (usually Buffalo Chicken or Turkey with a slice of American or Alpine Lace Swiss) with Reduced Fat Mayo

Snacks:
- Bananas
- Oranges

Since dinner is the only meal in my day where I need to factor in FH (meaning it's usually the meal with the most points value), I usually plan our dinners ahead of time, deduct it from my daily points and then decide from there what I will eat for the rest of the day.

ETA: I only do this strictly 6 days a week. I always allow myself 1 cheat day a week where I don't go crazy but I don't count points. It's usually reserved for a day when I know there is a party or I am going to to dinner or the bar with my friends. I like to be able to enjoy myself without worrying about the consequences. The next time, I get right back on schedule.

good luck! i think it's just hard in the beginning but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature and you stop thinking about how bad/hard it is!
