Spinoff fro NW board...Lurking

I am curious...how many of you were lurkers before posting?

Was it hard lurking without adding your own comments?

AND what finally made you start posting?

I lurked for a little bit on BHB before posting...it was sometimes hard to keep my mouth shut

The arrival of the ring finally made me post for real!!!

I lurked for a month or 2 and then started to feel the need to post because I knew something about what someone was asking & then from there watch out---- it got to be addicting

same here-- I was never intending to post, but I was talking back in my head, I just had to share.
And then I had questions.

ETA- I didn't post of NWR for a long time. I felt people needed to 'know' me first & I was also too busy on BHB , b/c I was clueless & had a relatively short engagement.

I jumped right in...I lurke a lot of times now though.
Really, I think I go in spurts, sometimes I will be a posting fool and sometimes I post only a few times a month.

Me too...i read some of the posts on NWR but the crazy nasty drama was TOO much then...

People think there is drama now...but it doesn't even compare to back then

I posted right away. I had been on the knot for a long time, but as soon as I found this I was used to posting. I didn't go on NWR for a while--stayed on BHB the first few months I think...

ETA: I do have a couple friends who lurk and have never posted! My MOH once commented on something I posted, and another friend said she likes to look at the pictures in the Bridal Review...Neither are engaged or planning...

I lurked on BHB for a week or two, but then I wanted to ask a question, so here I am.

I also didn't come on NWR for a long time. Still I am quiet here.

Well I had a really short engagement and joined this site purely to help plan my LI wedding... Actually 'technically' DH signed me up for LIWs .. he found it and convinced me to 'chat' because he thought it would help me get info about vendors and such, since I had no clue (being a Westchester girl and all) I think he's sorry now!!

That said for the first few weeks after I found LIWs, wanted NO PART of chatting when I first joined ... I would read threads to get ideas about different vendors , etc but I just thought everyone 'knew' everyone and I felt too nervous and tentative about actually participating. I think I finally took the plunge after 'lurking' for about 3-4 weeks or so... then after that, I never shut up!!

In the beginning I was purely on BHB .. I don't even think I realized other forums existed! And I lurked on NWR for a LONG time before posting here - talk about intimidated, I found this board downright scary back in the day!

How very true!! I would read the threads on NWR, but for many months would only post on those which were relatively harmless and non-controversial. You could not even keep up with some of the threads that got out of hand. Everyone 'knew' one another (much like the NWR 'regulars' do now) but then it seemed that even the most interesting , debatable questions would turn into MAJOR drama at the drop of a hat!

YUP! OMG drama over everything that it was SHOCKING to actually discuss something without the thread being pulled!

Well at first, once I joined I posted mainly on bhb, since I was planning to have my renewal here so I always had a lot of questions. then I just started wondering around and I found this board and started a thread where someone started controversy and that was it, I'm practically a regular now. I do go everywhere but this is definitely my favorite board.

No kidding. It was insane. Yet people feel the drama over here is too much for them nowadays Actually I think the boards are a nicer place these days because we play alot of games, etc. It seems like there's more kinder interaction between everyone.

I admit it, I was a lurker on BHB for a little while. I was pretty addicted to the Knot but started posting over here because things got so ridiculous over there. Everyone over here seemed so much nicer and there weren't half as many 'trolls'.

Do you mean Trolls? or did they actually charge you over there? I didn't like the format on the Knot, when you post, it doesn't go to the top of the board, so I would have a lot of trouble looking for answers to my posts.

I agree about NWR - I didnt' know it existed for a while. I think after my wedding, I was so over all of the planning I didn't want ot be on BHB, but by that time LIW had already become part of my daily routine (yep, that's right, I don't really like you guys, you're just a habit! ) so I needed another outlet. THAT's when I stumbled across you all over here
