Did you receive a 'gift' like jewelry from dh when you had the baby? like a diamond necklace for going through labor? i ask b/c i was talking with someone who is pg and keeps hinting to her dh that she wants diamond earrings for having his baby. i was kind of like 'huh?' what is the norm? personally, i doubt we'd be in the financial position to be expecting diamonds when i'd be more concerned with making sure our baby's needs are met, but that's just me. what is typical?

I feel the gift my husband can give me and me to my husband is our baby! Thats the best gift I could ever get! Not Jewelry. JMO

Re: Spinoff from Expecting for expecting.
My husband bought me a tiffany bracelt with my daughterss name engraved on it. We added my 2nd daughter's name on it when she as born, and I have 2 stackable eternity bands that have each of my daughter's birthstone on each ring, when my son is born, my husband says he wants to buy me the 3rd stackable ring to represent my son. I like the idea since I will be able to pass these things down to them at important times in their lives, and it signifies their entrance into or lives.

My DH did buy me a ring with a blue topaz stone for BOY!!! I did not expect it, and would not have cared if he did not get me anything. BUT when he brought it to me in the hospital, I started bawling and thought it was the sweetest thing ever.

I agree! I would never expect a material gift from my DH for being pregnant or even when I have the babies. The babies are the gift!

I never expected one but DH bought me a gorgeous Gucci watch about a week after I gave bith. He planned on giving it to me then but I went three weeks earlier. He thought it wound up being the perfect gift my regular watch stopped working the day I went to the hospital.

I never expected anything, nothing could really top my baby's birth.

I didn't get anything but I would have liked a card. I'm sentimental and thought it would have been nice to have something that I could look back on and even put in her scrapbook.

I used to joke with DH when I was pregnant that I wanted a diamond and blue sapphire bracelet when I had the baby. He was going to buy it for me but I said no babe I was only kidding.
He did send 2 dozen long stemmed red roses to the hospital with a card that read 'Mommy, thank you so much for bringing our little one into the world, I love you' That card meant more to me than any material item

I think cards are BEST! Even better than a present, they express so much more. With both of my daughters I wrote letters to my husband and gave them to him as he was asked to leave while I was getting my epidural. They were long, reflective, love letters, each time he came back into the room crying. I think women think of these things more than guys. I even gave my parents a letter as I dropped off my daughter on our way to have our 2nd daughter, I told them how thankful we were for them and how much they taught us about family and being parents (my husband and I have been together since I was 16 so they have been a big part of his life as well).

I didn't expect anything, but the morning after I gave birth to our daughter, my husband showed up at the hospital with a gift certificate for a 1 hour massage and a 1 hour facial. I thought that was really sweet!

i think it is nice when the husband recognizes what you've gone through, but to almost EXPECT or HINT that you'd like something...i don't know.
