Since I've found out that fewer people can come to the wedding than I originally thought (relatives from California can't make the trip; friends with babies can't travel to Connecticut), I have about 10 or 15 empty 'slots' for the wedding. This may not seem like a big deal, but to me there's a big difference between having 65 people there and having 80 (it's a 20% increase!)
So... with the wedding more than 3 months away, I'd like to invite friends from work that I thought I wouldn't be able to. Problem is - they know they weren't invited before. We're teachers and we have a lot of time to chat, so they know all about my wedding and know that since it's small, I couldn't invite any of them. Well, now I can, and I'd like to. I've always wanted to - it's just that since the dining room at the Inn only holds 85, I had to put my family and best friends first.
How do I bring this up? 'Now that Aunt Suzie can't come, you're on the list!' doesn't sound quite right.

Re: Spinoff - Inviting the 'B' list
I don't have a B list because quite frankly I don't like them. You want these people to come to your wedding so just tell them you would like to invite them. You don't even need to mention you have family not coming just invite them.

well since you didnt send out invites yet then its good bc this way its not like they are getting an invite a while after others did and after no rsvp's youre inviting them. Tell them that you are going to send out invites soon and just ask for their addresses, say they have been there for you so much during the planning and really want them there

That's a nice way of phrasing it, thanks, it's probably what I'll do.
I talked to my mom about it, and she told me that they probably expect to be invited anyway, since it's rude to talk about your wedding with people you're not inviting. i don't know about that, but I guess I can't think it's a problem to mail out invites 2 months in advance to anyone, I don't see how it would be anything other than a pleasant surprise to someone who thought she wasn't invited.

Yeah it will be a nice surprise. Plus like i said, you havent even sent out invites so its actually perfect bc this way it seems like you always planned on inviting them.

Re: Spinoff - Inviting the 'B' list
I forsee us having a similiar issue. We had to put a cap on invites but we kept a list of people that we know would go if invited in case we can't make our minimum. We had to be realistic and couldn't invite everyone....but if space opened up than the hey...iv'e been on the B list before and I wasn't offended because I know how it is.
Work is especially tricky...i kind of agree with your mom a litle bit....I try to not talk about it too much at work especially because I know I can't invite everyone there....the more you talk about it...the more involved people feel and want to share in your excitement.
It's tricky and not alot of fun to navigate...you are def. not a lone..good luck...

I agree- since you havent sent out the invites yet, its not like they are getting them any later than anyone else. Just tell them 'hey, I know I said we couldnt invite you, but we really want you at our wedding' or something to that effect...

you could say something like, we were able to accomodate more people than we thought and we'd love to have you there...

Denise this is perfect, ITA the invites didnt go out yet, heck i didnt even order my invites yet lol. So you can get away with inviting them! I wouldnt worry about it and think its a great idea to do so!
