Spinoff: Is your DH/FH chivalrous?

Spinoff: Is your DH/FH chivalrous?

I mean does he hold doors open, open your car door, pay for everything?

Did he do this while you were dating?

And also, do you think the guy SHOULD do these things, like should he always pay or always hold the door for the lady, etc.

With me, Fh has just about ALWAYS apid for everything when we went out. He paid for all movies, meals, whatever..even if I needed to buy a chapstick, if I was with him, he'd pay for it, eve though most of the time in HS and college I was making more money than he was.

He still lets me in the car door most of them, and holds doors for me. It's waning it used to be all the time, now it's just sometimes.

I think it's sweet. I can't say guys SHOULD do this, but I really like it when they do. I really didn't 'date' very much, but with my best friend, when she tells me about her dates, if he doens't pay for the first date, or at least try to, he's NOT a keeper. Maybe it's totally hypocritical and old fashioned, but I think if it's the first date, that guy had better be paying!

Brad is very chivalrous, although I think it has decreased since we've been married. He always used to hold the car door for me. Incidentally, I passed his 'test' when we started dating by leaning over and opening the car door for him from the inside.

If there's one seat on the subway, he always gives it to me, but if I know he's really tired, I have him take it..it works both ways.

He almost always paid for me, while were dating, although at times he didn't have the money, so I would. I don't think the guy should have to pay every time. I wouldn't like if they didn't pay for the first date though!

I wish my DH was chivalrous, but he's really not. When we first dated he would pay for things and for b-days and holidays I would get really nice gifts- usually jewelry. But that changed very quickly and we became a 50/50 relationship in terms of money. I do wish that he was more of a 'gentleman' though. He doesn't open doors and he doesn't pay for much.

FH ALWAYS
holds the door for me,
opens and closes my car door,
unlocks my house for me when he takes me home at night,
always paid when we were first dating, but now we're pretty equal,
almost ALWAYS drives. He has something against women driving men.

I love that he's like this, but what can I say - he's a HUGE momma's boy.

he has always paid for everything and our first date was the best ever and it impressed me so much. I do have to say that sometimes I have to remind him to open the door for me and all. It seems that he does it with other people but sometimes he forgets with me.
in the past if he didn't have money, I would help him out but only maybe in one occasion. otherwise he says he is the man and that's his job.

I guessed he learned to be like that since he only has sisters and his father does the same for his mom.

DH & I are 50/50 when it comes to money & spending etc ... but he does give up his seat for me and he does hold doors. Automatic locks have stopped the need to 'open the door' for me, I don;t mind though

DH is defintely chilvalrous. He always holds the door open for me, opens my car door if he's driving me somewhere, and if we go out to dinner, he pays and when it's time to go home, he always helps me put my coat on.

DH is, and it has definately increased since we have gotten married. He does not like me lifting or carrying anything. laundry baskets, beach chairs, groceries, anything..he always grabs from me. def holds open doors, if we are going somewhere with another person, he always offers me shot gun even though his legs are so long.

it was valentines day and he took me out to this really nice and expensive italian restaurant on the theather district, after that we went to the movies and then he took the train to queens with me and took a cab that he paid for to take me home, where incidentally he got ripped off because he wasn't really familiar with the area.

And he said he never did anything remotely like that for anyone.

He's not NOT chivalrous...but he doesn't open the door for me EVERY time. He would give me his coat if I were cold, but he will totally call me on things if I'm just testing him to see what he'll do

He has a heart of gold, although it doesn't always surface

FH still holds doors open. He also opens my car door and pays for 99% of things. I leave tips many times. He did do this while we were dating.

I do think a man should always be a gentleman. It shows an element of class and a good upbringing. Being a gentleman does not always mean paying for everything though. sometimes finances don't always permit, but class and chivalry do not equal money.

I was listening to a radio show in the car yesterday talking about women who 'dont need a man'. Some of the women who called in said that a man needs to know he is a man. Part of being a good man is showing chivalry. Not just paying bills. In this day and age, households need two incomes for a reason. I still think it is ok to let a man be a man - especially if you are secure enough in yourself to know who you are as a woman.

He opens doors for me, but not always the car door. When we started dating he paid for everything, but when I found out I have more $ than he does it's become more 50/50...He doesn't like driving all the time so even driving has become more 50/50...

sometimes my DH is too over the top with it and I tell him that it must suck that I am a girl, and he says why? Because if I were one of your friends you would not be carrying all the groceries.

Shorty McBride Posted:

Re: Spinoff: Is your DH/FH chivalrous?

um, I wanna know how come suck wasn't ****d out in Janice's post! I thought it was a bad word?

Lets do a test:

suck = suck
***** = $ucks

eta: so $UCKS is bad, but SUCK isn't. OK then.

I was totally expecting it to be ***** out

I just realized in my avantar pic, we are in Cayman, and DH held up my umbrella for 4.5 hours because it kept blowing away. He is a gem. But he is this way only with me though. Which bothers me, but he says if he was friendly to other women on the beach I would probably have an issue with that so he can't win.
