what do you guys think about the signs on the front lawn that announce a child was born??? my boss and i were discussing this, and he was dead set against them, as he feels it's an advertisement to sex offenders that a child now lives there. i thought they were cute, and never thought twice when my GF had the stork on her front lawn for the arrival of my god-daughter.

even without the sign, wouldn't anyone driving around eventually notice the baby paraphanila on the lawn and in the driveway?
I think anyone who is driving around looking for kids will find them easily enough without any signs announcing a new birth.

I think they are cute too.
All a sex offender has to do is look down any block and see kids playing or a basket ball hoop to know there are kids there. I think these kids more at risk then a newborn.
I am one of those people that thinks information is good to have but you can't live in bubble.
Unfortunately we live in a time and a place where there are unsavory (to say the least) people EVERY WHERE. We choose to live in a heavily poplulated area we have to know that there could be ANYONE living next door.
Kids now a days need to be taught about strangers and touching places at a very early age. Parents need to keep the line of communication very open with their children so the kids will never be embarrassed or ashamed to tell their parents anything.

i wouldn't worry about the signs...its not like the se offender is taking notes and thinking in 4 years I will have to go back to this house...
Its all about educating your children...parents telll their child we will NEVER send a stranger to pick you up EVER...
but I guess its the people you know...you have to watch out for

I don't know about that. I mean, of course every parent will do everything they can to protect their child from a sexual predator but I agree with the other posts. A big stork sign says there's a new baby but what do they do, drive down the block, make a mental note of the sign and check back in a few years? Maybe they do for all I know but if you live in fear of that then I agree you should have no toys in the yard, no swing set, your children should be carried to and from the car under a blanket, no walks in the stroller. I guess what I'm saying is it sounds a little extreme.

Its sad to have to think of something like this, but I have to agree that its a bit extreme.
and I agree these sick ba$tards would be looking for older children, not newborns... so theyd look out for 'big kid' toys lying around or simply drive around on a hot summer day
I remember years back, I was maybe 10-12? and there was a car going around that would take pics of the kids playing! and they took a picture of us once... thank God nothing ever happened, but are people THAt sick???
Which reminds me, I want to see that guy that killed Carlie in Florida, burned ALIVE

I dont think the signs alert your house to child molesters b/c those guys tend to look for older children. A newborn isnt much interest for them and I doubt they wait for years either.
The thing I dont like about the signs is that it announces your personal business to everyone who passes. I think that is giving away too much information indescretionately - which opens to door to scams, etc.. I much prefer birth announcements sent to your family and friends.
But I dont think its a serious problem either way
