Spinoff of Pixietina's post..

I have the same question...FH and I can't decide about whether or not to have an E party or not. Money is such a concern right now...

so... for all those girls out there that had an E party, how long after you got engaged did you have it?? Is there an average? when would you consider it 'too late'

TIA!

I believe E-Parties should be 3-6mos after you get engaged and there should be enough time between the engagement party the wedding. We got engaged in November 2010, our E-Party is in April and our wedding is in September 2012.

We also got engaged in November, but our engagement party is not until June. We aren't getting married until November of 2012, so I don't think there really is a time constraint for the engagement party, as long as it's not right before the wedding.

We are doing something small, just with close family friends. Our single friends are not invited with guests unless they have a long term significant other.

I am not having one because like you money is a concern right now and to me an e party is just something else you have plan for. There isn't a time contraint on it if you were really looking to have one.

we got engaged 5/4/10, our eparty was 10/17/10 & we are getting married 5/4/12.

I originally wanted it around the 1 year mark but his mom wanted it sooner. I would say no less than 8 months before the wedding. You don't want people to think 'i just gave them a gift a couple months ago & now im giving a gift again'

i got engaged Dec. 17th, and am having my E-Party April 9th...I think if you are having an E-party, it should be no longer than 6 months after your engagement.

We got engaged Dec 30, 2010. We wanted to do a backyard BBQ so we were waiting till spring so our E-party will be June 2011 (within 5months of engagement). The wedding is April, 2012, which will be a full 10 months after the e-party. And my STDs will be sent out hopefully by the end of june beginning of July.

Based on the advice I got from LIW, this timing totally works! (i was worried about the late e-party and late STDs)

We got engaged in Feb we're having ours in June...We really wanted to have one because we'll have a year and 7 month engagement so we wanted to celebrate with family and friends

I agree with the no longer than 6 month thing..

FH is against an E-Party and thinks it's rude to ask for more gifts, when you know you are having a shower and wedding in a year or so. Money and his opinion are going to stop us from having one.

I wouldn't say no if his family threw it, but I dont think that is likely. And my parents live in FL, so she definitely won't be planning anything.

If I had a house, rather than a 1 bedroom apartment, I would throw my own E-Party and say 'no gifts' on the invite. I love having a party, but in this case, it likely wont happen.

Not sure yet. We wanted a BBQ but like the other brides said money is a concern now. Lets see what happens

We had our 6 months after we got engaged. IMO it should be no later than a year before the wedding, because then your wedding and shower is too close to the eparty and it looks like your asking for gifts...

You can always do a backyard party... it doesn't have to be a sit down dinner or anything. Have fun with it

We actually had our engagement party in June of last year so we were already engaged for about a year. I know the norm is a few months but b/c we were having such a long engagement it didnt bother us. Plus, a series of unfortunate events (!) occurred back to back not too shortly after our engagement (deaths and the like) and it didnt seem appropriate at the time to throw a bash LOL. I think its no biggie to throw it when you wish. If money is a concern though dont fret if you want to skip it OR maybe do a brunch or buffet to save some $ HTH!

This is true! FH had a nice big backyard and I can def. get nice white tents and chairs from our friend. Can def. make it relaxed and fun. We def. don't need presents, we just love having everyone around us. thanks for the advice girls

Re: Spinoff of Pixietina's post..

I got engaged Feb 25th and would really like to have my e-party over the summer. I just want to have a back yard bbq with close family and friends. We are having a long engagement and would really like the opportunity to celebrate with everyone since my friends and family mostly live in NY/on LI and currently I am living in MD. I also don't care about presents, I really just want to celebrate and have our families and friends meet each other. I have seen invites with the line 'your presence is present enough' on them which I think is a cute way of saying no gifts needed (which is really important to my parents, because they don't want guests to feel like they have to bring gifts, but that is a whole other story).

BUT, here is my dilemma. My sister got engaged 5 weeks before me. Her mother in law was pushing her and her FH to have an e-party, but they didn't want one. But I do want one.....so how do I go about having one with out causing drama?!
