spinoff of stupidest comments... E-RING MANHANDLERS!!!

Original post by ThongLori

Has anyone else had someone 'manhandle' their e-ring??? This BUGS ME TO NO END!!!

They ask to see the ring, I put out my hand and there is touching of the ring, turning of the ring, rubbing of the diamond...

I dont get it!! I don't mind someone touching my hand to get a closer look at it, but BACK OFF THE BLING, PEOPLE.

Anyone else feel violated by this?

BACK OFF THE BLING, PEOPLE.

OMG Lori...I AM LMAO!!!!

Yes, I hate this too - but I hate more when people ask me 'oohh...how big is it?'

as if that's an appropriate question.....

BIG ENOUGH...that's how big dammit!!!!

my FH loves when i clean my ring... he even bought me an ultrasonic cleaner for home!!

I got one for Xmas too. FH knows that I am obsessed with cleaning my ring.

One day we were walking around the city and decided to go into Tiffany's and look at wedding bands. The woman helping us asked if we were recently engaged and I told her for about six months (at the time we were). She was so surprised, she thought we had just gotten engaged because my ring was so clean.

I hate finger prints or water marks. I will polish them away immediately, even if it means turning away from someone I am talking to

People ask to try it on all the time (even my dentist's assistant!), which doesn't bother me, but I was somewhat appalled when a friend of a friend asked to see it and then proceeded to walk outside and check it out in the sun.

And it doesn't phase me anymore when people ask about the size. The stone attracts attention, but I don't find it appropriate when people start 'appraising' it.

Ohhh yess...I hate the manhandling of the Bling! And I'm with you Jen, I love when people try to appraise it....'well that must be a 1ct., I color VSI......' I think people do that just to get you to divulge it's actual qualities and it's so annoying!

I don't mind the manhandling so much. At the beginning I didn't like it getting dirty, but I've been engaged so long now that it doesn't phase me. As for trying it on, only a few close girlfriends have asked, and I understood that they were genuinely excited - it didn't bother me at all.

This is a funny thread. I only had people close to me ask to try it on. And I let them. But hey, it is beautiful!

Same here.

LMAO that is so funny. I have never had anyone ask to try it on...That is the strangest thing IMO. I would not let anyone if they asked...I have a guard so it will not even come off 1st....and 2nd it's family hierloom..3rd thats just plain stupid to ask to try on someone elses e-ring I think.

i'm curious -- those asking to try it on... are they single or married?

What really gets to me is when they ask to see the ring (and I NEVER get mad really about anything).. then they take the ring and start etching their names on all the mirrors in the house. Now that's annoying!

Ah. that's just too silly..

But I definitely do understand what everybody's saying.

My Fsil actually told me that since she is in teh bridal party it is her job to wear my ring until the acutal wedding. Everytime I see her she needs to try it on and model. She just wishes her cheap boyfriend will get her one....

It's been both for for me.

The one thing that still amazes me is the number of men that ask to see my ring. (Although I'm still waiting for one to try it on! )

Same here....I don't care so much about people trying it one, mostly b/c I am so proud of it and I it makes me feel good that people like it so much.....

But again, I think asking the size, price or specifications about color etc...are just inappropriate questions!
The only time I have ever answered that question is on these boards

My FSIL asked me to try it on...And it was when I had first gotten engaged...I had wanted to have it on my hand for a full 24 hours...But she's like: 'Too bad, take it off'
She's a bully and I'm a pushover...
Then she said: 'Aw, it's cute...Perfect for your small hands, you wouldn't want anything too big'
THANKS!
I guess a one and a quarter carat, f color ring in a platinum setting would be small for her big fat hands???

I cannot tell anyone how much i love those little ball ring guards!!! I know when i am pregnant, and have fat fingers, it will be soooo good. but i have one friend who likes to try it on...i don't mind... she loves jewelry and patiently awaits the day she will get engaged...as for others, irish people turn it for good luck (i'm part irish, so that works).

I don't mind - my FH designed it and it's kind of modern & different so I like it when people want to inspect it...
The best way to see it sideways so I have to stick in their face anyway!!
I waited long enough for my bling - all my other friends got theirs right after college, later, I am excited to show it off!!
