Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

Good morning :) Just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on veil edging. I tend to think that an 'unfinished' or raw edge makes the veil look almost endless, but at the same time think a rolled edge (just threaded) is pretty also. With the style of my dress, I really need to go that simple...
Any opinions?
TIA!

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

I love an unfinished edge. If not, then I am looking into lace edged options but really hard to match dress.

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

It depends on the material for me. If it's the bridal illusion or standard synthetic tulle, I think that a pencil edge is really pretty. If it's silk, I think that it's unnecessary as the fabric is so beautiful, I wouldn't want to take anything away from that.

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

I am getting the rolled/threaded edge, it is almost like a raw edge with a teeny bit extra.

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

Yeah I also love the lace edging, but there's no way it would go with my dress. Not sure if I'm even getting a headpiece or just doing the veil with some type of antique looking barette on the side...
Love your dress by the way - maybe your veil could have lace edging just at the bottom & not the sides so it doesn't interfere with the top of the dress. Just a thought if you really want the lace...

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

I agree eogara....is the silk tulle a really huge difference? I've never seen it up close so I'm really curious.

THX! Someone suggested a mantilla and I LOVE that look -- like what bunnymonkey posted she is wearing but I am short and busty so most of these veils that lie close to the body just make me feel boobier whic I really hate. I need to do some veil investigatory work.

When I tried it the differences were twofold IMO.
1. The silk is more opaque than the tulle. It gives you a slightly more blurred look.
2. What I really love about silk is how it lays -- it is very flowy and tends to have minimal pouf, which I dislike.

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

Yeah mantillas are so beautiful....I tried one on and loved it, but just didn't go with the dress.
So you may have to get a poofier type of veil, maybe elbow or fingertip length, so it doesn't lie so close.

Oh yes, silk tulle is incredibly beautiful. It's just flowy and gorgeous. I should be getting mine any day (definitely before 11/21) so as soon as I get it I'll post pics. If you want, you can see it, we can meet somewhere so you can see the tulle.

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

I always thought I'd want the tiny pearls to edge my veil, but when I went last night to try some on, it just seemed like too much. Personally, I'm not a fan of unfinished edges, so I suspect I will go with the rolled. Just a little something.

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

Sounds beautiful....my only concern is that since I'm keeping mine on throughout the reception, it may be difficult to see through the fabric of the silk - to the back of the dress...
Did you notice this at all?
Thanks eogara, can't wait to see pics!! :)

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

Truthfully, I didn't try mine on with my dress. I do love the back of my dress but also intended on wearing the veil during the reception (unless it gets really annoying). While it is more opaque, it's not that much more so than the regular tulle. I would go with a single layer (that's what I'm doing, so I may be biased ) so that it's not too dense.

Agree with Eileen -- it is subtle, the slight more opaque quality. You still see through.

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

i just like the simplicity of a cut edge (raw edge) but it really is a matter of taste. i also have a lot going on in my dress with color and a sash.

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

I suprised myself by getting a veil with very delicate beading on the edges. It's beautiful and adds just a little bit of sparkle.

Re: Spinoff of Veil thread: edging

Anybody thinking of getting or has seen a thin edging of satin on the end of the veil? My dress is satin and I was considering a 1/4 inch edge. It is not rolled but sort of a flat edge.

This is my veil. It's not the greatest picture so it doesnt do it justice. It's so pretty.
