Re: Spinoff on Washing Sheets w/ Poll
My mom is a nurse. So, she's 'heavy duty' on the bedding (but NO, not to the extent of washing HOME sheets every friggin week)
Anyway, she always insisted that we have a hypoallergenic, waterproof, machine washable mattress pad. Apparently, that's the 'healthiest' form of a mattress pad.
I wash that approx every month. (less often than I wash the sheets- but we don't ever eat or drink anything in bed)

DH has bad allergies so I change the sheets every week and I try to wash the matress pad at least once a month. I try to keep it all controllable for him.

Re: Spinoff on Washing Sheets w/ Poll
Before I had this huge mattress that the sheets barely fit over, we had a mattress pad that I changed every other time I changed the sheets. I actually have two to alternate with (which are mow taking up half my linen storage space in the basment since I can't use them anymore! )

For those of you with allergies or allergic men - how often do you wash your comforter?
Ours is so thick and big (and of course, it's black so it shows everything) that we have to take it to the laundromat to wash it, so that's such a hassle that we don't do it enough.
I wonder if I should buy a comforter that has a removable cover (is that a duvet?) I ca't have feathers.

You can get a duvet without feathers in it.
I wash our duvet cover about once a month, it's a lot easier to do than a comforter.

We have a down comforter ( supposedly hypoallergenic) with a duvet. D Hi sisnt' sure if he is allergic to down,s o we got imitaiton down pillos (so the down wouldn't be right in his face), that are verfy fluffy like down. I think they make comforters of the same thing.
OUr duvet is dry cleanonly though, so maybe I'll do it once a season unless we spill something on it.
I used to wash to matress pad every few months, but honestly, I think it had been a LONG time. We just go a new one though, SO we started all clean again. I don't like to wash it too much, its shrinks & gets pilly.

Re: Spinoff on Washing Sheets w/ Poll
I have major dust allergies, so I have the pillow covers, mattress covers, box spring covers... My allergist scared me with all the facts about what is on your bed and in your sheets!
