Spinoff poll from my ques to Missliss: If you have or plan on having children...

Will you find out the sex of your first?

To answer for myself - yes. I want to know.

Edited for more questions:

why is okay or better to not find out for the first but find out for the others?

AND - what if all along you thought you were having a boy, and had a girl (or vice versa) - were you a little bit disappointed? hmmm, maybe that ques should be an anonymous poll...

Not for the first- there are very few surprises in life & fh and I both agree we would love to be surprised!

absolutely. I definitely want to know. I'm a total space cadet and having a baby alone will be a lot for me to handle so I want to be as prepared as possible!

I have an honest question: I hear people say this all the time but I'm just curious: why is okay or better to not find out for the first but find out for the others? So only the first is a surprise [note: question from someone with severe youngest child syndrome ]

part of me wants to be surprised, but i know we'll both be way too curious and will want to find out. it also makes it a lot easier to shop and prepare everything for baby.

I would want to know.

Even though my cousin in Canada was told she was having a girl and she ended up having a boy.

that happend to an old coworker of mine too. we had a huge work shower for her - she already had 2 boys and was so excited for a girl. of course everyone bought all girl stuff, and she had a boy

well honestly, we will have one already, be old (we're already 30 and not having the first until at least 2 years)- and both work full time- so in order to prepare for the other children will want to know- not sure if that makes sense but thats the reason we have

I feel exactly the same way. I want the excitement of not knowing until the doctor says her is your son/daughter.

happened to my neighbor -- had a pink room with a pink crib and a pink infant's layette ready and brought home a bouncing baby boy.

Q: will you find out?

A: we have discussed this and want it to be a surprise.

Q: why is okay or better to not find out for the first but find out for the others?

A: i'm really not sure what we'll do with this. At this point - we just want a baby and aren't even thinking about anything more than 1 (though ultimately, we want 2). For others, it has a lot to do with, 'do we need all new stuff', because if you have a boy as your first child, and a girl as your second - a lot of the stuff will have to change...so it means a lot.

Q: What if all along you thought you were having a boy, and had a girl (or vice versa) - were you a little bit disappointed?

A: No, the sex doesn't matter to us at all, as much as 10 fingers, 10 toes = a healthy baby.

I think it's so fun and exciting to wait but FH and I have already said we cant see ourselves being able to wait and will likely find out!

I wouldn't want to know. There are not many really great surprises in life, but this would be one of them. Plus I know someone who thought she was having a girl...everything pink, and it was a boy. The pee-pee must have been tucked away...so now what do you do with all the pink?
