Spinoff poll from my ques to Missliss: If you have or plan on having children...
Original post by LuvMyAlfonse
Will you find out the sex of your first?
To answer for myself - yes. I want to know.
Edited for more questions:
why is okay or better to not find out for the first but find out for the others?
AND - what if all along you thought you were having a boy, and had a girl (or vice versa) - were you a little bit disappointed? hmmm, maybe that ques should be an anonymous poll...

Not for the first- there are very few surprises in life & fh and I both agree we would love to be surprised!
I have an honest question: I hear people say this all the time but I'm just curious: why is okay or better to not find out for the first but find out for the others? So only the first is a surprise [note: question from someone with severe youngest child syndrome ]
well honestly, we will have one already, be old (we're already 30 and not having the first until at least 2 years)- and both work full time- so in order to prepare for the other children will want to know- not sure if that makes sense but thats the reason we have
makes sense. I'm always curious about this stuff. like my sister is pregnant and she found out what it is but didn't tell anyone b/c she wants her other kids to be surprised [meanwhile, she ended up telling all of us but we are supposed to pretend to her husband that we don't know ] so in this case she's not surprised but the kids will be.
don't worry, we'll be OLD too. We're thinking 2 years also, so i'll be 33.

I'd like to find out at the very end (I'm talking 7-8 months into the pregnancy)

To answer again, i didn't see your question in the other post before, sorry ...
Right now I don't want to know what we're having, DH does. But he did say that he won't find out if I don't want him to know, we'll see, I may let him cause I know his mouth is a clamp, he's an excellent secret keeper and won't spill the beans if I don't want to know.
I'm surprised by my own answer actually because I tend to be a control freak, but I don't know....I'm sooooo superstitious and have been so far throughout this whole pregnancy. What I want to know right now more than anything is that the baby is going to be healthy, everything else is just a bonus, so why not wait for my bonus prize until the end??
That said, I could TOTALLY change my mind in the next 6 weeks (we'd be able to find out at our 20 week sono). So, I'll let you know if I change my mind.

As far as the first being a surprise and later ones not.....after you're on to the second I think I'd want to know the sex so I know what I need to keep from the first as far as clothing, bedding, etc and what I can get rid of/hand-down etc, and have this all done before baby #2 comes cause once I have 2 little ones, I don't foresee time for spring cleaning.

I really really want it to be a surprise! But I'd also like to decorate the nursery according to gender so that's the only reason why I'd like to find out. It's such a tough decision

Right now I would like to say we want to be surprised. We are going to try to make it a game really...DH want/has to have a boy named after his father and I don't like the name and I think it's silly, but he won't budge...therefore our compromise is that I get to pick a girl name (even if he doesn't like it lol) so basically we each get a 50/50 shot! So it will be kind of fun.....now that being said we'll see if i can actually do it! I am a plan freak! and might not be able to hold out!

As of right now, FH & have said we will have to find out the sex of our baby when we get to that stage in life (about 2-3 yrs) from now.

absolutely. I definitely want to know. I'm a total space cadet and having a baby alone will be a lot for me to handle so I want to be as prepared as possible!

I want to be surprised but FH wants to know. I told him no way- he wants a girl so bad so if we find out ahead of time it is a boy I don't want him to be miserable during the best time of our lives!

My exhusband 'accidently' found out the sex of our first born on the chart. I didn't want to know and told him he better not tell me or anyone. He told his sister, but had it backwards at first, but kept it mum to me. The problem in that is the little innudos that will come out. There will be little things said that will tip you to the sex. I say both know or neither.
I didn't find out for either of my children. If FH and I have one, it would be soon since I am closing in on 40. He wants to know, I don't. I have one of each. I think the best is in the end when you tell people the baby was born, they all want to know the sex and there is excitement there. When you know the sex, that is gone IMO.

honestly, I'm still undecided about whether or not I want to know. part of me wants that pure moment of finding out after i give birth but the type-A personality in me feels i can prepare better if i know before hand.
i think its ok to find out about the others and maybe not the first depending on your circumstances (can 2 of the same sex share a room; 2 of the opp. sex mean more room needed, more stuff needed, etc.)
i really want boys but the idea of a little girl is just as special to me. i dont think i'd ever be disappointed with a child - any child. i was told 10 years ago the chances of me having any kids would be slim to none. now the docs. tell me its not only possible but as close to definite as you can be. i just want a baby who is healthy.

FH wants a girl first and wanst to know, but at the same time it will be exciting to be surprised. I honestly only care that the baby be happy and healthy. I think either / or will be a lot of fun!
