OK, for those of you that say physicality is important, let me pose this scenario. And let me state I respect and appreciate all views on this and think it is an interesting dicussion.
ok, god forbid, something was to happen to DH/FH, where he was in an accident that left him disfigured/dismembered to the point where the physical attraction you had for him is totally gone. Do you stay, or do you go?

Re: Spinoff to Attraction
I would stay, but I know and love him now. Honestly, if it happened in the initial meeting and getting to know someone stage before I fell in love with him, that probably wouldn't be the case.

Re: Spinoff to Attraction
I would stay in sympathy...would I live the rest of my life thinking I was dealt a raw deal..If he became the man without a face, I would not be attracted to him, but I would stick around...If he lost a limb I would still be attracted to him..

Re: Spinoff to Attraction
There really is no question. I married him 'for better for worse'. He is my best friend and soulmate. We are together till the end. I know DH feels the same. It is a heartbreaking thing to think about, however.

Re: Spinoff to Attraction
I'd definitely definitely DEFINITELY stay.
Just the scent of his is enough to make me drool, and it's not just those baby blue eyes that I love - It's HIM, even if he is disfigured.
In fact, now that I think about it, I'd probably love him more. It takes an incredible person to go around publicly looking 'not-so-normal'. He already has my ultimate respect, but I think I'd find a way to find more in me somewhere...
does that make sense?

Re: Spinoff to Attraction
While I think that physical attraction is important I am in love with the person that my DH is on the inside. I would stay without hesitation.

Re: Spinoff to Attraction
No question I would stay .. not even a shimmer of doubt in my mind
But as Beth said, I do not think I would be truthful if I were to say that I would definitely be able to say with certainty that if something like this would have happened VERY early on in our relationship, before the real love and committment was established, if I could stay. That is the real tough question...

of course stay.....if you are with them you are because of love....
just like if they gained a lot of weight.....would you leave?
Sadly people would leave!
But know if that accident left them an emotional depressed, moody, obnoxious rude, inconsiderate mess...would you still stay?
see other thread jenny, i also posed this question

I would defintely stay because I love the person, not the body on the person.

i think weight gain and tragic disfiguring aren't in the same class...
if my DH gained a ridiculous amount a weight i would be turned off and disappointed because he would not be taking care of himself, something that is within his control. i would of course stay with and take care of him through any type of tragedy.
