Spinoff to Bridal Shower post...is anyone ever REALLY surprised?
I'm asking because brides do expect that they will be getting a shower at some point, so is anyone ever truly surprised at their shower? We threw a surprise shower for a friend, and it was soooo stressful. She knew she was getting a shower, she just didnt know when. Meanwhile, it was so stressful for the bridal party...we were all telling lies on top of lies, and were all trying to keep track of the lies that each other had told so we wouldnt give it away to her. It worked out in the end, because she never found out when it was, but I sometimes wonder what the point is, if the bride KNOWS she's getting a shower.
Just my opinion, hope I didnt offend anyone who is looking forward to the surprise!

I think a lot of times,, people slip up, things don't seem likely. Like the other day one of the girls mentioned her FH wanted to go shopping and for lunch when he is usually sleeping before work... that made her think it was a shower and guess what- it was
I think yes,, many times a bride is surprised, if there are no leaky mouths!

I see your point. Its a cute idea and some brides might be genuinely surprised but most brides know they are having a shower. I won't be surprised for mine because I am choosing the place to have it. If I didn't... god knows where they would try to host it. Prob some biker bar

I won't be surprised of the date, but I told my MOH and my mom I do not want to know where it is or anything else about it. The good thing is I will be out of the house by then so I won't find out any details.

i wanted it a surprise but yes it is hard not to realize right before. I mean alot of things were going on the few days before. Its also hard when you meet somebody the day before your shower and they say 'oh youre the one whose shower is tomorrow'

I alreday told my MOH/Sister that I want a 'HOUSE' bridal shower. I know it will be at her house b/c she has a big house and huge backyard.. so It may be a surprise for me b/c it's easy to get me to my sister's house.
It should be awesome though.. it will be in the summer and she has a huge pool so it will be a pool party/shower!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Mine is a surprise, but honestly... if suddenly my MOH is taking me out for lunch at a swank place on a saturday afternoon, I'll wonder why...

i think even though you might be 100% sure its happening there still has to be a surprised feeling when you walk in and everyone is standing there for you....mine will def be a surprise, its always been done that way in both of our families....i told FH that ill probably have an idea of when its happening though and he better not act silly and give it away....and some people are really surprised - FH's sister was 100% surprised for her bridal shower and so was my Aunt - they both cried like babies when it happened!

I was!!! Everyone lead me to believe it was the weekend after it really was! I didn't even shampoo my hair that day! LOL!! And i was dressed kinda bleh! I was so mad at that! Hahaha but it was a very nice shower and I loved it!

i think it can easily be surprised as long as no one opens their mouth OR does something out of the ordinary. in our family, every shower is pretty much a surprise. yes its true everyone expects a shower, but it can still come at a time when you least expect. depends how everyone works it.

But you still knew it was coming. I agree completely. No matter what you know you are having a shower....and it is stressful for the people that are trying to plan. What will be a surprise for me is what is going to go on at the shower, but i wnated to know when it was.

obviously my shower will most likely be any weekend day from Sept - Nov so yes, of course you know its coming - but i def think you are still surprised when it actually happens - even if you expect it everytime you go out it still has to be shocking to see all those people there for you!

yup lol plus if anybody registry stalks then you'll know bc youll see TONS of things coming off everyday the whole week of your shower. Plus my mom took my grandmother saturday night to get her hair dyed, like they couldnt wait lol. My mom was running downstairs to my grandmother alot and staying down there for a while, i know something was up and i found out after the shower that they were packaging the favors. Theres just alot going on right before your shower and it makes you suspicious

i didn't want a surprise b/c i know i'm getting one, and i'm not the typy to be all gushy and 'oh my goodness' when i walk in. plus this way i helped them with the location... i really didn't want it out in LI since only MY family lives out there - not me, not my friends, not most of FH's aunts or cousins. so that's why it was good that i had some input...
i told my mom i didnt' want to know anything else but she is telling me EVERYTHING it is driving me crazy and my sisters keep yelling at her but then they yell at me like, well YOU didn't want a surprise!

Mine was a huge surprise because I thought it was going to be the weekend after. And while, yes, I expected it - I was totally blown away at how they had fooled me and it was so fun to walk in and see everyone I love!

yes, i guess i knew i was going to get a shower eventually but i was still surprised on where/when it was
there is nothing like that feeling of walking and realizing that its for YOU and seeing everyone there that loves you
in my family ( unless they are good liars ) everyone was totally surprised!

You know your right that everyone knows a shower is coming at sometime!! LoL which is why my mother had my bridal shower in Decemeber (we are getting married in June) to throw me of and i must say i WAS COMPLETELY SHOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT some of my friends have just ended up planning the shower with their bridal party and gretting people becasue they knew about it.....but i must say i was one of the few who had no clue...LoL
