Spinoff to Bridal Shower post...is anyone ever REALLY surprised?

I'm asking because brides do expect that they will be getting a shower at some point, so is anyone ever truly surprised at their shower? We threw a surprise shower for a friend, and it was soooo stressful. She knew she was getting a shower, she just didnt know when. Meanwhile, it was so stressful for the bridal party...we were all telling lies on top of lies, and were all trying to keep track of the lies that each other had told so we wouldnt give it away to her. It worked out in the end, because she never found out when it was, but I sometimes wonder what the point is, if the bride KNOWS she's getting a shower.

Just my opinion, hope I didnt offend anyone who is looking forward to the surprise!

I knew I was having a shower BUT I had no idea when it was until we got to the parking lot of Meson Ole (where my shower was) and I saw one of my co-workers cars. They (mom, moh & bm's) made up this big elaborate story about how my Aunt was having a 25th Wedding Anniversary party that day (which, I found out after was being held the following Saturday, they gave me the real invite at the shower). They sent a fake invitation to my house and everything. It was insane.

So even though I knew I was getting a shower it was still a COMPLETE suprise.

I hope I'm surprised.... I tend to figure things out & am suspicious already... Plus, I only have a few weekends left for when it will be. I don't know anything about it (except for that my best friend is coming out from CA!! ).... I'm excited & nervous and trying to dress up a bit for every weekend event....I know FH really really wants me to be surprised (he's been helping MOH )

My mom was. Her mother told her that they were going to paint my parent's new apartment, so my mom pulled her hair into a ponytail, threw on an old ratty t-shirt, and ran out the door... and into her entire family.

Lol after hearing that story a few times, I asked to know the date of my shower so I could at least put on makeup beforehand!

I have been tld that I can know nothing about my shower or have anything to do with the planning. This stresses me out. Even if I can not help plan, I'd like to know so I can be dressed appropriately.

OMG...love the post! I was the one who said in the other posting....how many are really surprised!

Ok I have helped to throw 2 surprise Bdays for my dad and it was so stressful and he ended up finding out about them both! Arghhh! All the stress and he found out anyway!

i didn't want a surprise b/c i know i'm getting one, and i'm not the typy to be all gushy and 'oh my goodness' when i walk in. plus this way i helped them with the location... i really didn't want it out in LI since only MY family lives out there - not me, not my friends, not most of FH's aunts or cousins. so that's why it was good that i had some input...

i told my mom i didnt' want to know anything else but she is telling me EVERYTHING it is driving me crazy and my sisters keep yelling at her but then they yell at me like, well YOU didn't want a surprise!

I am def like you but alittle more of a control freak!

Also my mom said alot of the OOT are sending shower gifts (FH family is from AZ) and I keep asking her all types of questions, what size is the box, is it heavy and she is helping me figure it out! FH yelled out 'Dont tell her any more' HAHAHA!
