Spinoff to btrflygrl's post about calling in sick....
How often (on an average) do you call in sick a year? I average about 5 days per year, and I would say at least 4 of them are mental health days. I feel like I am always at this place!!

Re: Spinoff to btrflygrl's post about calling in sick....
I'd say way more than that but I get migraines ... I get 10 sick days a year from the company.
I ALWAYS do work when I am home sick. I can't bear to let email pile up ... I even tried to do some work when I got home from LASIK.
I believe my HM was the only time when I've taken days & did not check email or do something for work.

I only call in sick when I am physically sick and truly can't work. Some years are better than others. I think only once or twice in my career did I call in when I wasn't truly too sick to come to work.

I generally use my 6 days per year. In my job you feel guilty taking mental health days because they have to find someone to come in and cover for you. Now if that wasn't the case I am sure it would be a lot more. I really only try to call in if I am actually sick.

This year I have 3. Of the three this year, one was definitely a mental health day.
The other two were in Jan / Feb when I had a sinus infection two months in a row.

My job gives 5 sick days a year and I usually take them all. At the begining of the year I only take them when I'm really sick, but if I have a few left I will take them closer to the holidays when I just need some time to myself. This year I have no sick days because they let me use them when my sister was in the hospital. It sucks because sometimes I really don't feel well and I still have to come into work.

We don't get sick, days, it is sort of an honor sytem. you take them if you really need them.
I usually ony take about 3 a year, I guess. Onw year I called in sick for no real reason, and then a week later, I hit my head & was out for a week! I felt so guilty about that fake sick day.
When I was younger, I took them more often, because I'd over sleep WAY to much, or I'd be hungover.

I used to never go thru all my sick days, knock wood I was generally healthy and didn't need to.. and of the days I took, I would use one or 2 for 'mental health' ...
At my old firm we got 4 weeks vacation and 10 sick days, and had to use the days as such (i.e., no 'calling in a vacation day', etc)
Here they lump eveyrthing together so you get PTO as 30 days total, no matter how you want to use the time up
I actually went over 2 days this year , the first time in my entire life that ever happened. This was because of all the time off I took for pre-wedding and HM, on top of being really sick a few months ago that I was out for a week
I also get migraines (that just started the past 2 years) that keep me out of work more often than I used to be

I honestly don't call in sick unless I'm dying....I played hooky once down here in GA from the job I hated. BUT, the revers is when I do get sick, I'm sick for awhile! Like up in NY...I had to stay out sick for 3 days with tonsilitis and then about a week and a half after having my tonsils out!!!

I have unlimited sick days.. the majority the I call in is because of migraines... I would say on average I call in sick 15 times/year.

We get about 12 sick days a year - I really never use them for myself - I really only call in sick when my son is sick. But we are lucky in the fact that we can carry over our sick time, I have about 25 days accrued.

I get 12 sick days a year, and very rarely take one because If I don't I get paid for them at the end of the year. I get a big check.
I also get 6 personal days and 4 wks vacation, so I don't really need to take them anyway.

Re: Spinoff to btrflygrl's post about calling in sick....
i never used to call in sick cause i would feel really guilty and then just wind up getting sicker. Recently i have because 1)i feel i should take better care of myself and 2) i hate my job so i dont feel as bad doing it. besides its full commission, so its not like any of my coworkers care, they just make more money if someone calls in sick.
i'm actually out sick today which is why i've been around here all day long... hopefully i'll be feeling better tomorrow..

I get on sick day a month, but I rarely call out sick a year, maybe three times a year and usually one of those days are due to sickness.
During this past year while planning the wedding a did take maybe two more sick days to take care of things that I just couldn't do anyother time. I always feel guilty, but I think it's important to take a mental health day every six months.

at my new company we get 8 per year. since i was only here part of the year this year i got 2. and i've already used them both. i always use every day i'm given. especially at this new place where you can't carry-over. as far as actually being sick on those sick days... ha ha i'm hardly ever sick. i'm take them just to relax or do things in the city that i wouldn't otherwise get to do. lucky for me i'm blessed with not having a guilty conscience so i never feel bad about lying (about not being sick, not about everything!)

I am overall a very healthy guy. I rarely get sick... so I rarely call in. Maybe 1-2 days a year tops.

I am terrible!!! I call in like everyother week!! I just hate working and don't want to come. I just got a huge settlement and REALLY don't want to work, but I come and my boss doesn't really mind all that much.

I dont call in unless i'm really sick. We can carry over, so I try to save as many days as possible for summer and our trip to Florida in March. When I do call in, Yes, I do feel guilty but then DH tells me 'your sick, they'll get over it' LOL.
