Spinoff to Christmas trees, and ... well, Christmas in general

Original post by Mrs. dleeny

I was at the gym last night & the TV was on. there was a segment on Fox 5 news about people who are suing to call the tree in Rockefeller center a 'holiday tree' because calling it a Christmas tree is offensive

I am Jewish and never ONCE in my life did I ever take offense to anything Christmas related being called CHRISTMAS. what's with these people who are so easily offended?

any thoughts?

Goldi- you make a very good point- as always

in New York- we tend to me very New Yorkcentric- but as some one who has lived in other parts of the country- Colorado- ( went to college there)

I remember my freshman year saying how much it stunk not getting off from school for the Jewish Holiday's - and my new friends reponse was 'You know Jewish people?'

but once I moved back and attened a SUNY school- we were closed for all the holidays

My two cents:

How many years has a Christmas tree been called a Christmas tree and the words 'in God We trust' been on money.. It existed before all of these petty people who have nothing better to do besides argue a moot point. IMHO I dont feel that anything should change in regards to both issues.. They were here before me and should be here well after me. Our founding fathers created a country on Christian values and beliefs, and freedom of religion is among our civil rights. I have been taught to respect others religious beliefs, and although I am not 'any' religion per say, I am not offended by Christmas trees or menorahs or any other religions symbols. What will happen when our kids are in elementary school? Will they no longer be able to sing O Hanukkah, or Christmas carols?? Last year my nieces sung a Kwanzaa song.. Was I offended??--No, in fact I though it was great teaching the children of multi-cultural beliefs.
What ever happened to what our parents teached us? ANd why isnt the next generation inheriting those values?? Thats my question.

Good Lord. It's a Christmas tree dammit NOT a Holiday tree. These annoying people that are trying to change it need to get a grip and find another issue to gripe about.
What's next - the Spring Bunny Aka Easter Bunny?!

Another great comparison - and again, EXACTLY my point!

Now I think I might have to take an action for those of us who celebrate Festivus .. and get a pole put in at Rockafella Center for the restivus!!!

Festivus for the restivus!!
Festivus for the rest of us!!!
