Spinoff to Veteran's Day post...name a veteran in your life and what war/tour of duty he/she served.

I'll start...

My Dad...Fought in Korea. Lost 3/4 of the men in his troop. Carried his best friend up a hill (he was already dead and full of holes). My father didn't want to leave him on the front line. He later suffered hearing damage due to a mortar exploding near him. He still can't talk about it without getting extremely emotional. We had his name included on the Memorial wall over at Eisenhower as a surprise. He was beyond moved and still goes there every Veteran's Day to look at it...

Dad, you're my greatest hero. I love you.

My Father...

Served in Vietnam - Drafted at the age of 19
Had to leave my pregnant mom to go to war. My brother was born while he was gone. Returned 1 year later.

Died at age 55 from Pancreas Cancer two weeks before my wedding.

I was Daddy's little girl. I miss you so much Dad. He was also my hero.

Veteran's Day makes me so sad...My heart goes out to all those little old men who go out and march in sparsely attended parades wearing their Sunday Best and all their badges/medals of honor. I'm crying.

My Dad - Navy, not during wartime.

My Grandpa - Army, Korean war.

Alfred Lusardi - not sure what branch/war. Just know that he served and he is very special to the family.

My Dad was only in the reserves.
My FIL was in the Korean war.
He was also County Chairman of the VFW, as well as the Chaplain. He was always proud of his accomplishments and being a veteran. Love them both

My dad is an Army veteran, served in the Korean war

He would never tell me or my brother any of the 'horror stories' or what went on.. but I know he has quite a few. He would mainly focus on the great stories of camaraderie between himself and the good men he served along side him .. friendships that lasted throughout the years

My dad has always been my hero, and some of the stories you've shared about your loved ones have really moved me today. God bless them all

My uncle is in the Air Force and has been stationed all over the world.. he then went into the reserves in the medical unit and served 4 months in Iraq this past spring . Thank God he made in home just in time for my wedding or else it wouldn't have been the same.

God bless all the armed forces serving presently, and let's all try to remember to honor those Veteran's today

My father served in the Army- drafted, but never actually went into Vienam. His plane was prepped to leave and then they started pulling troops out, so he never left.

My FIL served with Marine Recon during Vietnam and is still very much OORAH

All of my last unit (I Marine Expeditionary Forces) is currently in Iraq. I could name more than my share.

My DH served for 5 years in the Marines (which is were we met) he never actually served during a wartime, but he did go to East Timor and was fired at while they were in turmoil.

I served also in the Marines, for seven years, recently released, also went to Kuwait to support OIF.

My father served in Vietnam, he has received over 55 medals of honor from the army including a purple heart. My dad saved the lives of 5 men when a US boat they had landed on (he was in the Airborne) was blown up. My dad lost his leg and his eye as the result of the war, and aftermath of the war from Agent Orange. But I am glad to say although that war changed my Dad's life forever he is still here with us today.

Dad - Signed up to serve his country in Viet Nam and drafted a day later... as he puts it, he won the lottery...

Grandpa J - Served in WWII..

Grandpa H - Served in Korea. .

Thank God that I have all three still here with me! I love hearing their stories...

Remember... Freddom didn't come free... Thank a Veteran!

God Bless all veterans past, present and future!
