Would you consider YOURSELF racist? And how would you feel if your child dated someone outside of their race?

Re: Spinoff to 'were your parents racist'
My parents were, but I am not at all. My DH is Spanish, I don't care who my children date. DH's family and my family made it so hard for me and DH to be together when we were younger

When I'm driving to work...there are many things that fly out of my mouth...with closed windows, of course. I need to stop that bad habit.

not at all. My grandfather is from another country and I have seen the way certain people look and talk to him, just because hes 'different'. It disgusts me and I would never treat someone different because they are a different race or nationality.

I have my prejudices, at times. No harm in telling the truth

Maybe at times just a little prejudice. I woudn't mind my child dating a member of another race as long as he/she was a respectable person. Same goes for the same race though.

Re: Spinoff to 'were your parents racist'
I think everyone has prejudices. It could be agsint people of a certain race, people who wear french manicures, people who are good or bad looking, people who are too fat or too thin. We make assumptions about people based on how they look. It's human nature to want to group people together. We cant fully help it, but it's how you react to it and how you act that can help you get beyond it.
That having been said, of COURSE I don't consider myself a racist.
Also, I've dated outside my race and would ahve absolutely nO problem with my childremn dating outside of their race, and I don't see why anyone would

No, I do not consider myself racist. I don't think I'd have a problem with my child dating outside... wait a minute... my children will mixed as it is!

Re: Spinoff to 'were your parents racist'
I have dated out side of my race as well as my religion but I will be honest, there was always something missing. I also know that the prejudices of my family would stand in the way of my happiness. Family is family forever. Unfortunately, men come and go. There is not a man alive that is worth alienating my family. That isn't racism or prejudice on my part - that is preference.

Re: Spinoff to 'were your parents racist'
When I was pursuing my BA in psych, there was this awesome computer test that everyone could take. It quickly flashed different photographs of different people, and then different word choices- negative and positive words.
The results were that almost every person has some sort of prejudice- be it toward another demographic or even to their OWN demographic...
I wish I could remember the name of the site...

Re: Spinoff to 'were your parents racist'
I have prejudices, which I am very aware of and try to set aside, but I am not racist.
I wouldn't care if my child dated someone out of our race, but to be totally honest, I would care if it was someone outside of our religion. That's not at all b/c of a dislike for non-Jews, but b/c I want my children to marry Jewish one day. It's a matter of wanting them to have Jewish children and further the Jewish people, and with the increasing rate of intermarriage, there are less and less children being raised Jewish. JMHO.

that's how i am. I'll mumble the little sterotypical things that i would hear from my parents from time to time, and then i usually cover my mouth and get mad at myself.
ETA: i wouldn't care about if my child dated outside of race - as long as he/she treated my child well, i would be happy

It would be pretty hypocritical if I was, since I will be marrying out of my race.

Re: Spinoff to 'were your parents racist'
Im shocked and disheartened by the people who said yes, though I unlike them try not to judge, so I wont even judge them, they have their reasons. I though cannot find any. I think and Im not afraid to say it that anyone who is racist and thinks any less of anyone outside their race, is ignorant, uneducated and selfish.
I FEAR for my children NOT knowing that all races are EQUAL. I will also NOT raise my children in say an 'all white' school or area, because I dont support the way those areas come to be.
As you can see, Im very very un racist and its something that bothers me to the core.
Everyone is equal, and I cannot fathom for a second anyone who thinks their not can wake up in the morning and like themselves. Its those people who make this world a terrifying place.
