(spinoff) What to buy when you're becoming a godmother

I am being Godmother to my second cousin over Easter weekend - what do Godmother's typically give as a gift? I really don't know what to give.

In my family, the godmother buys the cross.

In FH's family, the godFATHER buys the cross,
so the godmother buys the outfit and another piece of jewelry - usually a baby bangle bracelet for a girl, and an ID bracelet for a boy.

By a cross do you mean a cross on a necklace? Or do you mean one to hang in the babies room? And if it is a necklace, it's a small one, correct, or a larger one that they can wear when they're older?

I am going to become a godmother to my niece. I am going to be buying the christening outfit and a bracelet. The godfather is going to be buying her the chain and cross.

the NECKLACE cross --- I got a small one from my godmother for my christening, then a larger one with diamonds for my communion, also from Godmother.

I agree, I have 2 godchildren.. I got both of them a small cross for their christenings.

I also have 2 godchildren (DH has 2 as well) we have given 3 of them necklace crosses. However we give adult crosses because I personally dont feel that the childrens jewelry gets enough use. So I try to get them something that is adult sized but not too big that it looks silly on a child! Actually I got a beautiful Tanzanite and diamond one for my neices christening (yesterday).

I agree about children's jewelry 'usage' - but I wore mine all the time - everywhere except school. Also, I have it to pass on to my daughter someday

i bought for my niece kaitlyn when she was born her outfit. the dress, shoes, socks hat and the god father bought the cross.

I'm going to be a godmother for the first time this Sunday, as well.

I bought my niece Katie a beautiful little gold cross (from Macy's). I was a bit hesitant b/c it is tiny (baby-sized). I kind of wanted something she could at least wear for a number of years (communion?)

I also bought her a cross for her bedroom and a bond.

She already had a christening outfit in the family that was passed down.

Most of the large dept. stores carry child crosses/necklaces.

I was told that the GodMother buys the christening outfit
and the GodFather buys the cross!

In my family, the godmother buys the outfit and the godfather buys the cross...ask the mother what she wants to you get...maybe the godfather already planned on getting the cross.

i bought the outfits for both of my godchildren and and i bought them both safety pins in 18k gold with faith hope and charity to pin on to there under shirts so its close to there hearts. the god father bought the crosses

I bought the christening outfit for both of my godsons. I think for the first we bought a cross (my brother was the Godfather), but for the second, I bought a little signet ring. It's too big for him now, but it will probably fit him perfectly at his communion.
