Re: Spinoof Karissa's oil question.... Should you get a contract with an oil company?
I JUST talked to my friend about this. I had to get oil this morning, and the price was outrageous. She said that she has a contract, and that you get locked into a 'rate range'. She said her price will never be over $1.79 She called the her oil company this morning to just check the price, and the woman told her it was $2.12!!!!!!
So, I am thinking about getting a contract, just to be able to save myself some money in the long run!

We had a contract with Slomin's but the price still fluctuated until we called and got them to put in a cap on price.

Yes, you can lock your price in when you sign a contract and they service your boiler and I don't know all the details my DH knows.
We are glad that we locked our price in I think it was a month or two ago. The prices just keep going higher. I heard my mother has to pay over $2. !

We did it so that we would get a lock in rate and we are locked at either $159.9 or $169.9 I can't remember, but we can't pay more than that for the next year.

Also if you have a contract they will go and service the boiler for free. Believe me this is totally worth it because there will definately be times over the winter when the heat, hot water or both don't work. We locked in at 1.69 but last year it was 1.299

I considered not doing a contract. My parents done they do COD and recently got a price of 1.50. But prices are apparently sky rocketing. I called our oil company and hte price was about 2.15!!!!!! We locked in at $1.649 but it a fixed price, not a capped. Besides price the benefit is also the service contract. Not onlyw ill the clean or service your boiler for free but I have also heard that they generally give priority to contract holders when scheduling service visits!

Wow! I wish we'd tried them! Where do you live?
We just signed a contract with Sav-On-Liebert Fuel Oil a couple of weeks ago for $1.699. I was so mad because DH had been calling around to a lot of places and we decied to go with them, but they had originally quoted him $1.659 and by the time we signed a few days later, it had gone up!

I'm in the same boat...I think my DH thinks he can just call for oil whenever he feels like it and get a good price...I need to speak to him!
