We spend every holiday together. We split time between families, but as a couple we are always together. For Thanksgiving we are doing dinner with my family and dessert with his. Christmas we spend more time with my family, but his parents are both deceased, so there is less family on his side to visit.

Re: Splitting the holidays
We are lucky as both of our families live on LI (except for my brother/SIL, niece in CT)....we are usually able to split up the holidays as:
dinner with one & then dessert w/ the other & then we split it....
If we do dinner at FH on Turkey Day it is dinner at my parents on Christmas & then dessert at his house. Our parents are really great though & totally understand.
This Turkey Day is different though as my SIL is DUE!!!!!!!

We really don't-
he works on turkey day - xmas eve is my brothers house with my family usually he works xmas night as well so I hightail it to jersey to my family-but last year he came with me and my family.
We stop by his mom's house on xmas but this year she going to his sisters across the country. My family is HUGE on holidays and his is not...

Re: Splitting the holidays
Ours is pretty easy because all of my family is local and his is mainly in NH. We don't make a big deal out of Thanksgiving anymore now that we're older, but his family still does. And then we do make a big thing out of Christmas, but his family doesn't make a big thing out of Chanukah.
So Thanksgiving weekend I will be with his family in NH and then on Christmas Eve we will be with my family in Brooklyn.
It's the best thing because we don't have to fight at all about it, although I know one year will happen that I will stay home on Thanksgiving!!

Re: Splitting the holidays
For Thanksgiving, we have dinner at FMIL's house and we don't see my family (I only have my extended family). For Christmas, we do Eve at my cousin's house and day at FMIL's. After we're married, we'll probably have Thanksgiving at our home with both sides invited.

Re: Splitting the holidays
It's easy for me and FH b/c his family eats really early and mine eats really late. We do dinner @ his parents @ 2pm and then dinner @ my parents @ 7pm. But my Mom invites his parents over for coffee and dessert anyways.
My sister, on the other hand, alternates families every other year....1 year it's Thanksgiving @ his, Christmas @ hers. Then vice versa the year after. They live in MA, his Mom is in upstate NY and we are on LI. I have the convenience of my FIL's living 5 minutes away from my parents.

Re: Splitting the holidays
We made a decision when we moved into together.....we will always wake up and have Christmas morning together in our own house. So we do Christmas day with his family. Thanksgiving with my family in Buffalo, but they are always invited to come and spend Christmas with us!

Re: Splitting the holidays
Ugh, I hate this... Since we've been together, we have spent every holiday together. I told FH that we should just pick one family and go to the other for dessert, and vice versa. However he refuses to do this. So Thanksgiving we go to my dad's house at 1 PM, then leave to go to his grandmother's at 4:15 PM. Christimas Eve we spend with his grandmother and family, since my family does nothing. Christmas Day we go to his parents' house at 1 PM, eat at 2 PM, then leave at 4 PM to drive to my sister's house in Long Beach. I HATE THIS!!! I just want to stay put and enjoy. When we have children, everyone will have to come to me... this is too stressful.

Re: Splitting the holidays
Well we have it down to a science now..We spend Thanksgiving with his entire 'dad's' family in Hilton Head Island, SC for the week...Then Christmas Eve we do his grandparent's house & then Christmas Day is my family...
This year, Iam hosting Christmas Day because we have the house & I think it will be nice...
Easter is split between both families bc it is just so hard to spend the holiday with only one side...This Easter we will just be returning from our HM, so I am not sure what we will do!!!

Re: Splitting the holidays
Both of our families live on LI...we have split every holiday since we have been dating. WE try and time it so we spend an equal amount at each family's house.

Re: Splitting the holidays
This year we're doing Thanksgiving with his family, next year mine. We don't celebrate Christmas so no problems there.

Re: Splitting the holidays
We alternate yearly one year we do thanksgiving with mine and the next with his and so on. this prevents all the running around so we can enjoy too.

Re: Splitting the holidays
This year for Thanksgiving we are making the rounds. For Christmas we are going to my sister's because it is my niece's first Christmas (she'll be six months old). As for next year, I'll worry about it when it gets here.

Re: Splitting the holidays
We spend them all with my family for the better part of the day and if his family decides to have something we go visit for a short amount of time i know but his family isn't very family centered and they don't do much. His mom and dad are divorced and each do small things sepereately sometimes but not much. I am thankfull that they both don't do huge things because I don't like to leave my moms house on the holidays. I have ALWAYS helped her cook and clean and stuff and don't plan on changing it.
