Really, it was bad? I read the book and I LOVED the book. It was sad, but still very well written. I wonder if they just destroyed it in movie version...

A lady (Jennifer Connelly) inherits a house from her dad but I think she loses it because he (or she) had so many debts it was forclosed. A new family (middle eastern family I think) buys it and the husband is played by Ben Kingsley (I love him). Jennifer Connelly's character then tries to get the house back from him because it's sentimental for her.
That's what I got from seeing the previews in the movies. Sounds like you are not sure who to root for - him or her.
Also sounds kinda weird. I can't imagine how the book would be, but I heard it was a best seller.

Maribelle right o, but then Connely gets involved with this cop guy and things go wrong.
The middle eastern guy son dies, then the whole family commits suicide. I dont know it was just horrible
I hate when they destroy a good book.

Wacky, you should have told everyone you'd be printing a SPOILER!
And what you wrote is actually different than in the book. In the book, the father (Ben Kingsley's character) kills his family and then kills himself... they don't all commit suicide.
I liked the book because it gets very deep into each character to explain why they do the things they do... definitely souunds like the book was much better.

That may have been the spoiler but thanks for sharing.. I would NOT want to watch a movie like that.
Wasnt the lady an alocholic and the guy who bought the house took advantage of her in the deal (money not sex)?
We had NO desire to see this movie but heard some good things. Jim and I just couldn't see the point of it.
Glad we're gonna skip it.
Mass suicides are NOT my idea of entertainment.

You hated it? I thought it was great.
I read the book first which I loved and the movie was as close to the book as could be expected. Even my husband, who hates those movies, thought it was great.

MOVIES LIKE THAT ARE BETTER LEFT AS BOOKS. IT WAS LONG AND BORING, IF YOU ASK ME. THE ONLYHIGHLIGHT WAS THE 3O MINUTES IN THE END

Yea, it was a little slow moving in the beginning but thats true of most movies where the characters are very complex I think.
I just liked the whole subtext - the two stubborn people who have so much in common but they destroy each other before they figure that out.
