I was under the impression that you can't have your maiden name as your middle name... but my social security card just came and I have my maiden name followed by my last name with no hyphen. Is that normal? Did they make a mistake? Anybody else have any experience with this?
Thx!

Re: SS card name change-- so confused HELP!
i know two girls who kept their maiden name as their middle name, and another one who has two last names, un-hyphenated....so i'm pretty sure it's legal!! however...if you wanted it hyphenated, that's another story....

I think they use whatever you put on your marriage license as your new surname. I know they asked me if I wanted my full middle name or just an initial at the Dept of SS.

I always thought you couldn't do that without a hyphen it either had to be:
jane maiden-married or jane married
mine is jane maiden married -- so I don't know if that is considered two last names or a middle name.
When I change my passport do I use the two last names?

I kep my maiden name and my ssc reads both names. No mistake if you completed the form with both names. If i can remember the form specifically asks you how you would like you 'New name'.. Give them a call and see what they say
