Re: St. Marks Episcipol Church in Islip
what religion are you two? im just asking bc ive seen you post the same question asking about greek orthodox church, catholic church etc so just curious
if either of you are orthodox, then there is no pre-cana. Other religions besides catholic most dont require pre-cana
catholic they require pre-cana...its not a class like i think youre thinking it is. All you do is talk about your relationship...you dont do it with a priest but instead with a married couple...our host couples were married for 30 years. All we did was talk about problems that occur in relationship and how to handle them, how to make your relationship better, having your family interfere and not letting them...we also would take these tests to answer questions about our significant other and then we just exchanged sheets with eachother and just looked it over ourselves to see how well we know eachother. They talk about eachother pet peeves and just that sort of stuff...i saw it more as group counseling lol
I dont think its bad for any couple to do this, infact many said it really helped them. I know some couples who got alot out of it, its not classes where youre given work, actually we were given something but all we had to do was write a love letter to eachother.
MANY ppl on here were afraid about this, but once they went they loved it. Even my dh surprisingly liked it. ITs all about just making your relationship better and theres nothing wrong with that. You might be surprised what you get out of it. I only did the 2 day precana...first day they just showed us what a mass is, we were there for just an hour...then next day on a saturday we did spend several hours there, but we did break 4 times for 15 mins and 1 hour lunch that they served. The rest of the time we sat in an auditorium, the host couple spoke about things theyve gone through during their 30 year marriage and talked about marriage in general. They ask questions but only if you wanted to answer, ppl raised hands if they wanted to participate and others didnt say a word

I am catholic. he doesnt follow anything really. The only thing he had an opinion on about the whole wedding is that he doesnt want to go to any classes for the church. Im sure he will go if i really like the church but i dont want to push it. I have tried lutheran and i have to take 'faith renewal' classes on top of counseling(3 saturdays for 6 hrs each). I have also tried episicol and some told me that i need counseling-some not. I have also tried congregational but none have a center aisle(the one in sayville is my last hope). It really doesnt matter to me what church we get married in-as long as its nice and there aren't a lot of classes that we need to go to (1 or 2 i dont think he'll mind).

well like you said, if you go to another church of a different religion then you will have to do other type of classes...in order to get married in a church of a different religion, many will ask you to convert if neither of you are that religion, or take other religious classes.
Your best bet is to stick to a church of your own religion so you wont be required to do extra things.

ohhhhhhh ok i get it, so you mean that in order for your Fh to be able to get married in a church he has to take classes. Was he ever baptised? see i am not catholic but got married in a catholic church, i didnt have to take any extra classes, all i had to do was pre-cana but thats bc although i was of a different religion i was still a christian religion so all they wanted was to see my baptismal certificate. Make sure in your posts that you mention this bc others will think that by classes you only mean pre-cana...you will get alot more answers and people will tell you what you can do if they know its bc of this
thank you so very much

Keep in mind that many churches are different. I checked a few Lutheran churches and each gave me different requirements. So don't just go by what one place says. I also had a few Episcopal churches tell me they wouldn't marry us bc FH is divorced. Meanwhile it isn't 'sin' according to their religion. It really depends on the opinion of the person marrying you.

ooohhh then yeah alot of catholic churches are going to have an issue with that...i know of situations where one person had to do confirmation and all that bc they never finished all these things.
Orthodox religion, if neither of you are orthodox then it cant happen
not sure what the requirements are for other religions, but if neither of you are that religion then not sure what they will even say.

Re: St. Marks Episcipol Church in Islip
here is some info about getting married in an episcopal church...good luck
Step1Become a baptized Christian if you are not already. It is required that one member of the engaged couple be a baptized Christian since Episcopal marriage is a Christian sacrament that represents the union of Christ and the Church.
Step2Join an Episcopal Church if you don't already belong to one. Many congregations require membership and church participation of one member of the couple as a precondition for marriage. If you are not interested in joining a church, call local congregations to discuss membership requirements.
Step3Call your church of choice and make an appointment with the parish priest for an interview. Be prepared to discuss your church history, especially baptism, your intended date of marriage and prior marriages, if applicable.
Step4Provide proof of baptism and dissolution of any previous marriages to the parish priest. You must be separated or divorced for one year before getting married in the Episcopal Church.
Step5Confirm your preferred wedding date with your priest. If you have a previous marriage, you may have to wait five months to get married in the Episcopal church, as your marriage requires special permission from a bishop. You may not get married in the Episcopal Church during the season of Lent.
Step6Make appointments for premarital counseling sessions with your parish priest. You will have to attend at least three private, one hour sessions. Your priest may refer you to other professional counseling services depending on his assessment of your preparedness for marriage.
Step7Plan the wedding ceremony with the parish priest. You will have a limited number of scripture readings, prayers, and vow formats to choose from. You will also need to decide whether you want to incorporate the sacrament of communion into your marriage ceremony.
