Stainless Steel Cleaning FAQ's

Got this in my email and thought it was informative:

Whether it is utensils, tableware, sinks, counter tops, or small appliances, the stainless steel in your home is an alloy of iron that contains more than 10% chromium. You ask: isn't 'cleaning stainless steel' a contradiction in terms? The answer is no. Stainless steel does resist stains, but it also dulls and will show oily fingerprints. If its oxide coating is worn or corroded, stainless steel will rust just like regular steel, so the cleaning tips you seek are gentle. Rubbing with olive oil, for instance, will remove streaks. Vinegar acts as an efficient polish or cutlery stain remover. Just moisten a cloth and wipe. And that old favorite club soda will take care of heat stains. Check out the specific hints for flatware, pots, pans and stainless steel sinks.
