Stainless Steel or NonStick

Stainless Steel or NonStick

I was wondering what you chose for your pots and pans and WHY ??

I chose non-stick (Calphalon Hard Anodized Commerical 10-pc set) and already received them as a gift and am second guessing the choice.
I know that you cannot put non-stick in a dishwasher. Besides that being a selling point for Stainless Steel, what are the other benefits?
My father, who is an avid cook, said non-stick was easier to use when cooking which is why I chose non-stick.

Any opinions?

I don't like non stick for the reason that you can't use certain cooking tools. I ahve only one non stick pan, the others are farberware, stainless steel.

My set is also Farberware, stainless steel. I chose it really b/c I liked the way it looked- very clean, and I LOVE it. I have a non-stick fry pan or two, but otherwise I love the stainless steel.

I have non-stick and I love them...they are SUPER EASY to clean!!!!

you do have to use certain tools (I use a lot of wood tool and the plastic flexi stuff) and I cringe when I see DH bring a tool that could scratch near them...

but they are very easy to cook with...you don't have to use as much oil...

I have SS All Clad.

Why?

I was impressed with the quality of their cookware and wanted pots that would last a long time.

I chose SS instead of nonstick b/c I have had non-stick pans in the past and the non-stick coating has come off. I was initially concerned that the SS would be difficult to clean but I've never had a problem cleaning them. They clean easily with soap and water (I let tough stuff soak a little first).

Edited to say: we do not use a lot of oil when cooking (we're kind of health nuts that way.). We just use a little (Canola Oil) and cook at lower temps. We also find the All Clad evenly distributes the heat so the food cooks well.

Happy shopping!

same here - my only non stick items are frying pans. Plus, you don't really need non stick pots - at least I don't so they're all stainless steel.

Our 'set' is Farberware stainless. We have a few All Clad stainless pieces as well. I prefer stainless for the even cooking temp, and durability.

We also use a few nonstick frying pans. I dont spend much on them because I have learned that no matter what they cost they dont stand up to the use and abuse my DH gives them.

I have non-stick Calphalon pots and pans.

The reason I chose them was because I heard (or read, or saw on TV... can't remember ) that stainless is what to get if you're a person who cooks a lot and takes cooking seriously. I can't remember the reasoning why stainless is better, but it made sense at the time.

Being I'm so NOT a serious cook, I figured I'd forgo the 'serious' pots and pans and get whats easy to clean.

You all make good points. I have to think about this some more. FH & I love to cook and I don't want our expensive pots ruined within a year!

For the non-stick ladies, do they scratch easily? Do your pots have a lot of scratches on them? (assuming you are careful with them of course)

Mine are 2.5 years old and I don'tthink there's a scratch any where on 'em. If there is, it's too small to notice.

We have Anallon non-stick set, I love it. I like to cook and think I am pretty good at it but I have a problem of not getting back to my in time to stir them and it would burn. I never burned anything with these pots, they are very heavy but it distributes the heat evenly, you use less oil if any & they are so easy to clean. We have had them for 2 years and we do not have any scratchs on them. We also only use plastic or wooden utensils when we cook. We have metals one but try not to use them.

I luv my non-stick Analon pots, cuz they are super easy to clean. They only thing that I don't like about them that others mentioned is that you can only use non-metal utensils.

You Have to watch non stick, if it starts to peel (if it gets scratched) the rust that forms is toxic and a hazard to your health.!!! If you see this throw the pan away!!

Other then that its fine It all depends what you like I also noticed that the smell of fish still lurks around in non stick pans so for seafood i use SS......

I like both
I hope this helped
