You need to show your license? I mailed mine in and it never requested a license... I still haven't changed my license either. I honestly don't think you are going to have a problem!

Hey I called today and they said it doesn't matter if your license is with your old address! If you haven't already gone you can rest easy!

I hope this isnt a dumb question, but is that related to taxes?

Amy- its a reduction on the school taxes, and everyone is eligible. when you look at houses you can call the town and find out what the taxes with S TAR are.

Wow! So if everyone is eligible, then why don't they just automatically give it to everyone? Do some people have more taken off than others?

its pretty much a standard rate, but I guess the real motivation behind it not being automatically taken off is because there are lots of people who don't know about it, so the state makes money off of them. There are also enhanced star programs for veterans and senior citizens.

You're very welcome! Here's more info for you -
I don't see anything on there about the veteran's exemption, but I almost positive there is something! I would definitely look into it!

You can also grieve your taxes. Between star and grieving I cut my taxes down by 1000! Star takes one year to go into effect. Then you never have to apply again.
I greived 2 years in a row. I had a really great guy who only charged 60.00 but he has retired. Everyone else who does grievance wants a percentage of the deduction. But it is still good to look into.

Don't forget ladies STAR deadline is March 1.

I work at a mortgage company and it is amazing how many people do not take advantage of this program. I fill out and send the application for any customer who does not have it, it makes such a difference.

Re: STAR Rebate...

not every town's deadline is March 1st, so check with your town.

And I am in Brookhaven, and we had to show a copy of our licenses WITH the new address on it - to prove its our primary residence.

Definitely call your town to find out. if you are in brookhaven, FM me!
