Starter homes?

Starter homes?

Anyone hear of a starter home? My father mentioned it to me instead of renting but I'm still iffy. Not sure if I want to buy a house put work into it and just sell it again but it does sound like it makes more financial sense than renting. Any thoughts?

There are lots of starter homes on long island you could buy. Of course they will probably need a lot of work.

There are some under $310k in levittown that I have seen on mlsli.com and craigslist. There are houses in East rockaway under $300k, there are plenty of houses available that may only have 1 or 2 bedrooms that you could possibly expand in the future or just live in to gain equity....

Thanks! I found a few listings in suffolk too. It's definately something to think about but seems like there will be a lot of work involved.

that massapequa house is in a GREAT location! you'll need flood insurance, but that is so cheap for massapqeua!

FH and I are about to close on our starter home. It's pretty small and might need some work, although nothing major. The mortgage payments are kind of overwhelming right now, but we just didn't want to throw money away on rent, so we figure it's a better investment to buy a small house that we can add on to or sell in the future when we need more room

It's true that it would be a better investment but we would have to wait until right before the wedding to move in because we wouldn't be able to afford both a wedding and a house. I also don't want to wait anymore either. We've been together 5 years and engaged over a year!! I was planning on moving in Jan. after I graduate cause I already have my job lined up. I'll have a good full time job and nursing always has overtime opportunities so I figure we could save up for a year and then buy.

we looked at starter homes & actually made an offer on one & then backed up b/ c i had no place to put my china..(i know its siily) ..there was no where to put a china closet...so we changed our minds, we actually went with a condo & that was the best choice for us sooo much cheaper, less taxes & you own it.....the condo is a lot roomier than the house we looked at & i can fit a china closet in my kitchen......good luck..go with what you feel will suite you best.....

The thing is we really can afford a mortgage. What about buying an apartment like buying a co-op which are afforable. Would that be a better investment?
