Starting my DJ search

I am starting my DJ search this weekend. How did you girls start? Where did you get names and stuff from. Also did you ahve to make appointments or were you able to just go in and talk to the DJ? I saw some of the DJ's that everyone used but I am not sure how to start.

A few different approaches...

We found Parameters and Variety Music at a bridal showcase at the Huntington Hilton, then made appointments to sit and talk more in detail with both. There were other DJs there, but I remember one seemed a little intimidated to approach us. We kept walking, because we didn`t think a DJ should be intimidated in a social scene like that .. he`s got to be outgoing to be good. (I forget who this company was). Then, based on all the praise Spin Around Sound gets on this board, we called and also made an appointment with them. At Variety, we didn`t get to speak to a DJ or MC. There was a lady who handles the bookings .. she shows a tape of all the MCs they have available. At the bridal show, we had talked with MC Harry of Variety, who seemed like lots of fun, and who would have been the one we chose had we decided to go with them. With Spin Around Sound, we did get to meet with Tom White, who is the owner and is an MC. In the end, we chose to go with Eddie Terryn with Parameters. He really knows music and we just clicked with him. Over the past months, he`s been a great help in our planning. You might want to decide whether it`s absolutely important to you to meet with the actual DJ/MC, or if you`re comfortable meeting with a general person who handles the bookings. What sold us, among other things, was the clear pride Eddie has in his work and his ability to determine music that will work, or what might get people to leave the dance floor. You can`t get that kind of feeling from someone who handles just the bookings.

A few different approaches...

First ask your reception hall who they recommend..I did searches on here for dj's and also found out some of the inhouse dj's for well known reception halls. Then we set up appts with different DJ's..it was important for me to met the mcee..i wanted to hear their voice..and check out their personality, so we picked who we clicked with and also the best organized company..who was responsive to us..and very helpful..we went with Tommy Tunes..we met Tommy and a bunch of their mceess..and their receptionist is super helpful as well..good luck!!

Thanks for the tips. It is important for me to meet with the DJ and MC. My wedding is at the Swan Club but I do not remeber who they recommended. I will call them. Thanks again for the help.
