Statistics question of the Day

Statistics question of the Day

Help! You guys were helpful yesterday. Hopefully, you will have some ideas today. I have made major progress this week. But I now hit a stumbling block called Kurtosis!!!

I plotted my data in a histogram and it looks normal. But we were always taught that we need to describe the shape using the skewness and kurtosis. SPSS gives a skewness and kurtosis value when you do a exploratory analysis. However, in my notes from the first of three stats class I took in graduate school (five years ago) I wrote that kurtosis and skewness needs to be calculated from those values (they aren't those values).

Any ideas how to calculate them? Does this make sense?

I think I just figured it out. But if anyone else has an answer to confirm....that would be great.
