Stay at home Mom Question
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
God I would love to. I don't think that financially we will be able to unless we move out of LI. My mom was one and I have always dreamed of staying home with my kids. Unfortunately we need both salaries to even stay afloat.
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
i plan to, but then again, we're not going to be living on LI. I'd like to stay home for at least the first year if I can.
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
i really want to stay home with my kids i hope i'm able to. at least they are in school.

FH wants me to and we'll be living in GA then, so I prob will. I would love the opp to stay with my kids but I don't know if I will be able to handle it though - I think I'll go crazy! Maybe I'll work part time.
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
I will probably stay home for the first 6 months and then work part time for the next 6 months. But I could never stop working permanently. I feel like having a career outside of the home is very important.
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
I'll stay at home for my maternity leave, then back to work for me. I didn't spend 4 years in college and 3 years in law school to not use my degrees.
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
I wish that I could be a stay at home mom. We found out 2 days after we booked the Watermill that we were going to have a baby....so we used the money that we orginally saved for the wedding for a down payment on a house. My fiance is now working a load of overtime so that we can resave the money for the wedding. We both have really good jobs...but our base salaries just pays the bills. I would love to be at home with my son....but we are really lucky because my mom watches him while I am at work. If she wasn't able to do this for us I don't think that I would be able to work....and if I didn't work we wouldn't be able to afford the house...and still have money to spoil our little guy.
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
Maybe the first year if possible, or working part time. I know someone who worked only the mornings at her job.
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
We just bought a house and definitely cannot afford to live there on one salary. We are considering moving to PA in 5 or so years when we want to have kids.

Re: Stay at home Mom Question
When my son was born, I stood home with home for a year-financially it was difficult, but I felt it was important that I do it. I worked part time up until my daughter was born five years later. I stood home with her until she was a little over 2. Fortunately, I had my mom (who was always a stay at home mom). She watched both of my children when they were babies and now she's watching my 3-year old nephew while my sister works. If I didn't have my mom, I probably wouldn't have worked at all while my kids were small.

Re: Stay at home Mom Question
I voted yes, but actually it was a little of the 3rd answer as well. I plan on working with the accounting firm that has office space here by working on bookkeeping from home.
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
I'm hoping to have my own practice set up by then so I'll ideally be working out of the home. We'd still need someone to come in and watch the baby while I'm with clients but it's a little different from working away from home.
Re: Stay at home Mom Question
I would like to for part of the time (when kids are babies) but I would go crazy not working at least part time, esp. with all the work I have put into my field. Ideally love to consult and work from home on my own schedule.
