You don't have to--it's really in case you need to let people know for some particular reason. Such as, having a destination wedding, or if it's during a holiday weekend. I sent them out because I told a lot of people, including family members we don't see very often, that we were going to get married in September, then we booked for the first weekend in June. I didn't want people being shocked when they got an invitation in April, and possibly finding out that people had made plans already but would have changed them if they knew earlier.

I did, but I have a lot of OOT guests and its a long weekend.
I didn't send them to everyone though, only really close friends and family.
They don't have to be elaborate ... you can just send a simple card or even a magnet

I originally wasnt goig to sent them, then decided to send them, but ended up not sending them lol. I went to vistaprint.com and ordered them..then I was like, ah I dont want to bother with all this...and decided not to. Its totally up to you, its not mandatory.
