our wedding isn't until next may and i feel like i should wait until at least the one year mark but i'm also worried that it will be a popular time for weddings and kind of want to call dibs on my guests haha

I am getting married a week before you and I am sending them out in June. (about 10 months out)

here is my timeline:
got engaged in Feb 2010
In July 2010 we sent out STD to family (local and OOT) and bridal party
In Feb 2011 we sent out STD to friends
Getting married August
We figured all family would be invited no matter what so the more notice they had the better (esp since my family loves to travel and take summer vacations).
With friends we waited bc you never know who you may lose touch with (fh thought i was crazy when i said this and he insisted he will still be close with them all - he admitted in Feb he dropped 8 people from the list).

This sounds like a really good idea. I was thinking of not sending them to friends (ITA on the issue of friends invites changing, never know) and just doing family/family friends but still kinda wanted a way to give friends a heads up rather than just word of mouth- i hadn't even considering the possibility of 2 batches. Thanks!

I send mine out 9 months before but we also didn't have a full year between engagement and wedding....I think anywhere from 6 months to a year is good.

we mailed ours around 10months before the wedding just after Christmas was over so it didn't get mixed with Christmas cards

Honestly- unless it is a Holiday weekend, I think 1 year out is crazy

we are planning on sending them somewhere b/w 12 and 10 months (we have a lot of OOT guests)!

We sent ours at about 11 months....mainly bc we have out of towners and it's on a weeknight
