STD at the Engagement Party

Hey Girls. Here's the deal. I'm not getting married until July of 2011. My FMIL is throwing us an engagement party October 18th of this year.

I was considering handing out Save the Dates at the engagement party. We are have a huge guest list for the wedding but we are having a small engagement party. I am only planning on sending save the dates to those people closest to us as we are kind of counting on not everyone coming to the wedding since it is so many people.

Basically, the only people I want to send save the dates to are those people coming to the engagement party (aside from my uncle in Alaska and my BM and her parents in Connecticut).

Do you think that this is too early to send out the STDs? They all know the date already (it's basically our aunts and uncles and our grandparents). Should I just wait and mail them all out at the same time closer to the wedding?

You usually don't send out STDs until 8-12 months out.

The only worry I would have in giving them out now for a July 2011 wedding is A LOT can happen between now and then and if you give someone an STD, you HAVE to send them an invite to the wedding. This probably wouldn't be as big a problem with family, but i would be cautious giving an STD to a close friend because you never know what can happen in 2 years.

My advice, wait.

Ditto. There's no rush in sending them out, especially because these are family and close friends and they probably know the wedding date already. STDs are more for OOT guests anyway so you really don't have to send them at all if you don't want to. I'd wait though. I'm only sending mine out today for a May 2010 wedding.
