you should find the ones you what and order them. Sent them out 9 mths before your wedding mine are going out 6 mths before mine

I think I sent mine out about 9 or 10 months before. But I ordered them as soon as we booked (about 11 months before)

I don't think it's to soon at all. We're sending ours b/t 11 & 12 months before the wedding; we're having it in CT so basically everyone is out OOT. I'd try and get yours sent by the 9 month mark though.
