STDs- Do I HAVE to send them out????

So, I am constantly seeing people on here talking about their save the dates. So..i was just wondering...am I the only one not doing them???? Do I HAVE to send out save the dates? I kinda thought I'd save money by NOT sending them out but now i'm starting to feel like i'm the only one NOT doing them and that I should be??????????

Definitely not. I don't plan on it, word spreads in my family faster than light, so we opted not too.

You do not have to send them out.

I am NOT doing them. I think they're a waste of paper.

an invitation is enough.

People generally send them out IF you have a lot of out of town people coming in for the wedding or if your wedding is on a holiday weekend or such. We're doing them b/c our wedding is in the summer and many people take vacations during that time.

Our e-party was exactly a year to the day (plus 1) & we had a number of people not attend due to vacations.

There's no rule that you have to send them out.

you don't have to do anything you don't want to...

to be honest, i've been hearing from alot of my guests that mine was one of the first that they got --- i was shocked!

ps - ready to go face my mom yet? hehehe

I'm not! For three reasons:

1) I don't want everyone we invite to come (is that mean?!?) - so I am hoping no STDs will weed out some of the more distant relations (cause all the close friends/relatives already have the date marked!)

2) Just a way to save a little $$$

3) the Future ILs can't decide on their guest list. I am NOT going to send out STDs (and thus be obligated to invite all the people who receive STDs) and then have them want to change their guest list!

You don't have to, but if you have a lot of OOT guests or you are getting married during a holiday, it might be a good idea.

The only reason I sent them out was because 1/2 of our guest list is coming from out of state so we wanted to give them plenty of time to book flights, hotel, etc.

Me too. I am getting married the Saturday that starts President's week. I can't tell you how many people are going away the next day and how many people thanked us for sending the cards because they travel that week. Especially if you work with or know a lot of teachers or people with young kids who go on family vacations. Not a waste of paper in my case.

I'm not - I just don't see them as necessary in our situation. What I did do was write a note in my Christmas cards last year informing my OOT relatives of the date. Many of them acknowledged it either in their card to us or when we spoke next. I might make up 10 or so cards to include in this year's christmas cards for the OOT-ers, just so they know the hotel info and stuff. But nothing formal.

we've only received STDs for about 1/2 of the weddings we've been invited to. oh, and one of them was an electronic greeting card (FREE!).

we're only sending them out b/c most of my family is from overseas and our friends are all over the place so we want to give them as much info as we can as early as possible

We're not....our families and friends know when the wedding is already and since we want to keep in on the smaller side we really don't think it's necessary in our case. Plus we don't really have many OOT guests. BUT I have seen so many of them that are adorable that people have made at home and probably didn't cost too much.

YOU DONT HAVE to just do what you want... its your wedding you can do anything you want to do, don't let anyone tell you differen.

Im not.....I was going to but then I decided it was more work for me to do them(since I was going to make them) and I have a feeling that our 150 min will be way above.
As bad as this sounds, I dont want people to know about the date and save it,

But, NO u dont have to do them.

Sue dont make yourself crazy. I only sent out STDs b/c Matt has ALOT of OOT family and b/c my wedding is in the summer and alot of people make plans. If its not something you wanna do, dont bother.
